This would have been the correct way to implement this:
Reset Echoes.
Make all corruptions available at all times.
Make it so if you buy a corruption you “unlock” it and it’s now free so you can go back and forth and experiment with different builds.
Make it so weekly chest gear no longer can corrupt, but the weekly chest drops an additional 4k echoes to allow you to purchase the corruption you wanted. Also helps as a workaround to the bug where you can’t re-corrupt.
Sounds great, but do you really think nu-blizz wants to make things “easy” or even remotely fun for us?
Everything has to be tied to some sort of infinite grind nowdays, with a pinch of RNG.
For every “improvement” that they do they must add numerous drawbacks to it, just to force you to grind endlessly.
I don’t really like the last 2 points, honestly.
But they definitely should have done a reset, and they should have given players at least a weeks notice.
How come? Allow me to explain why I think they are good:
If you buy a corruption and apply it to your gear right now, and then next week you get an upgrade in that slot you will not be able to use it because it doesn’t have the corruption you just applied. This feels pretty bad.
Let’s say 2 months have passed and you have your optimal setup. now you are bored and want to experiment some and have fun with other corruptions. You can’t though because it will ruin your optimal setup. This feels bad too.
Right now the majority of item upgrades are going to come from the PvP chest, M+ chest, and Vision chests for most players. As is you can’t use purchasable corruptions on these. That’s going to be pretty demoralizing for players.
In addition if you got currency instead you can work towards what you actually want. That would motivate players to participate in all content.
They could also give us Echos for pieces we are not gonna use with corruptions instead of them constantly filling bag/bank space because we are too scared to get rid of them Blizz could get a wild hair up their butt and Nerf the corruptions we are using and all of a sudden you don’t have a backup at least getting echos from corrupted gear would soften that.
It’s rather naive to think this wasn’t planned from day 1. At this point they’re trying every possible trick to just prevent Bfa from fully sinking until SL comes out.
don’t apply corruptions to pieces you don’t expect to keep long term. if you are still in the process of regularly upgrading your gear, then you probably shouldn’t be buying corruptions for those pieces. exactly the same as the sockets you can buy. and if your new piece doesn’t have the corruption you need on it, then its not ACTUALLY an upgrade for you yet. bank it till you can corrupt it then swap.
if you have been running that setup for 2 months, then you have been accumulating echoes and gear for those 2 months. thats more than enough time to put together an alternate gear set (don’t you have one of those anyways?)
yes you can, they fixed that this morning, any items that you cleanse as of today you can then re-corrupt. the only ones that still need fixing are items that got cleansed prior to todays hotfix. (and that will likely be coming soon)
how is this any different from the current system.
a non-optimal gear set that may or may not synergize at all with the build you are going for.
Good to know thanks.
Players would be more likely to participate in content they don’t necessarily love if they knew they’d get a guaranteed benefit from it as opposed to now where it may be a complete waste of time.
That would never happen, it would lead to people just switching their corruption builds for different content. These are supposed to be like enchants, you aren’t swapping them around all the time either.
Or just fix the bug? Then you can have can still fish for corruptions you may want and if you get a bad one, you can remove it and still have a high ilvl item to corrupt later.
not forever, once you start pushing into the 470’s there aren’t all that many upgrades left that you can get, and what few upgrades may exist will probably either take a while (or in the case of mythic nyalotha upgrades you can tell based on if you have that boss on farm or not how likely an upgrade is going to be).
so you just pick the pieces that you don’t expect will be easy to upgrade and corrupt those. sure you might get some “bad luck” and end up with your best in slot item the very next week, but thats highly unlikely.
and there is no guarantee either that your current gear set would syngergize well with it either. thats what happens when you start working on alternate gear sets for other specs/builds, it takes work just like building your first one did.
currently they DO have a guaranteed benefit, the corruption they want to purchase is eventually going to be available, even if its not there immediately it will show up eventually. even if that takes a few weeks. we’ve gone 4 months so far with absolutely zero way to guarantee we will EVER get the corruption we want on a good piece. so this is already a huge improvement.
Not resetting Echoes was a massive mistake. There’s people in the Warrior discord now pushing 80% Haste because they were sitting on 30k+ echoes and could just outright buy rank 3 Expedient for every piece day one.
Now people who had all their essences have to wait 4 weeks to catch up for no reason.
Definitely not. This was a different purpose and needed a new currency. Echoes to buy essences should be unchanged. Instead, characters without the cloak can no longer buy essences.
That would have been a terrible way to implement that.
Resetting echoes would have negatively affected far far more than the people QQing on the forum about being ‘behind’. Most people were out collecting these on their alts for the exact purpose they were intended for. You don’t all of a sudden reset currency to zero in that situation.
None of the rest of your ideas are much better in my opinion.
They wouldn’t do it because you don’t make a game that way. OP’s solution were made with OP in mind, not with the entire game.
You mean wildstar that only tried to please one group of people and failed? Or is there another fail game out there that tries to survive on a small number of players?
