I have alts. Too many. But I like playing them, gearing them just a little bit, and farming old content with them. I especially like the transmogs I’ve built for each of them.
But every time I get gear on them I run the risk of ruining my transmog thanks to the intrusive shadow goop or slowing my game down due to negative corruption effects. These are not progression characters, and I will not do a 2-3 hour quest line for every single one just so I don’t have to see my transmog again or die when I fight Rukhmar in WoD…
Yes, I can cleanse the gear. But these are just alts I like doing world content on. I have already done the cloak quest line three times. Believe me, once is more than enough.
The option to cleanse corrupted gear should be baseline. There is no reason to discourage people from doing regular world quests on alts just because they might get gear that makes the alt a whole lot less fun to play.
Giving the option to cleanse corrupted gear is locked behind the cloak quest line AND corrupted memos. Why? I am not doing the cloak quest line for a fourth time. I’ll die on this hill.

You can get corrupted mementos by just killing stuff in uldum / vale when they’re under attack by the black empire if you’re really THAT against starting the cloak questline.

I am THAT against doing the whole quest line for the fourth time, and I think more people share that sentiment than not, especially when it comes to characters we have no plans to progress through high-level current content.
Besides, you’ve missed my point. You still have to basically complete the whole cloak quest line if you want to cleanse the corrupted gear. It’s more about locking it behind a few hours of content that I have already done rather than flying in to Uldum and killing one mob.
It’s simply not that easy.

Yeah it really should not drop corrupted gear on characters that don’t have the cloak. It really spoils world quest gear.

you can actually do just that. corrupted mobs spawn pretty often that drop mementos. There ya go, no quest needed. Though the question is why even go to such lengths when you could get that ilvl 470 cloak and all the mementos you could ever want for cleansing?
I’m not sure you know what you’re talking about. You still have to go through the majority of - if not the entire - cloak quest line to cleanse it. So no, you actually can’t do that, but I’m pretty sure you’re missing my entire point anyways as I’ve addressed each issue you’ve brought up already. Please read through the OP carefully before you reply again.

Yeah a whole turn in quest once you get a corrupted item sure is a long quest line.
Corrupted Mementos don’t ACTIVATE until you’re near the end of the cloak quest line, after obtaining it and doing your first Horrific Vision without Orbs of Sanity. Until then any activity that would give them, wont.

Pinar, you cannot use the mementos to cleanse the item until you have finished the cloak quest line, which is far more than just ‘a whole turn in quest.’ Again, I’m not sure you realize what you’re talking about.

I have an alt that has only done the uldum assault and has already activated the cleansing system. It seems to trigger whenever you get a corrupted item in the first place.
In that case, I’d recommend not equipping corrupted gear.
Seems simple to me.

Not quite.
Not just any corrupted item prompts the quest to unlock cleansing.
It has to be the guaranteed wrists you get doing a full invasion (once you get that far) as part of the quest chain.
Even though it’s not a huge deal I do think:

cleansing should be free. The 5 mementoes is so low it’s clear it’s just a way to force you to get some.

you should get the quest to learn cleaning on the first corrupted item you get from any source.

Oh no you have to do a questline that let’s you skip 2 big parts and gives you more gear to gear up those alts… man people whine about simple things

The system opens up early, the currency to spend it comes at the end. Go do more of the content that gives mementos, you won’t see any. Even the Lesser Vision is off limits until the cloak is available.

I think alts should have a complete cloak quest skip at this point. Yes, it’s a legendary, but most of the power comes from upgrading it, not from just getting it. We can skip a couple scenarios, but the chain is tedious, especially on a new character. If you haven’t done the chain on a sub-400ilvl character, it’s very slow. You should be able to just skip the chain entirely up to receiving the cloak if you’ve already done it.
I also think they should increase how many vessels you can get a week just from completing the assaults since it would give you more to do on alts.

Correction: corruption is just awful.
In general. In every way.
Speaking as someone that has all my BiS corruptions, and as a tank with 4 twilight dev pieces.
When I can eventually wear another couple of them, i’ll be able to crit for over a million damage on procs (as a tank). Dps will cry rivers of tears and blizz with nerf it for a 3rd or 4th time (who can remember any more).
Things to look forward to. This is what we have instead of balanced and smart gameplay.

Being able to cleanse corruption as a default makes sense, tbh. It shouldn’t require the questline.

I dont really see what the problem is here. You dont want to do a quest line for a BiS cloak, thats fine. But it also suggests that you dont care about gear upgrades. If a WQ item corrupts, then just vendor it. Problem solved.
