They took all the RNG everyone complained about, doubled down on it and made it even more frustrating when you don’t get the item you want. It’s ridiculous how many hoops of RNG you have to jump through to get a good item
If it was plentiful and low impact, you could mix and match in your corruption budget and build your character in different ways.
Except it’s rare and overpowered, and the gaps on the good pieces vs the bad are gigantic. So it’s guaranteed to make you feel bad, and make the game feel unfair because other people are outperforming you not because they’re playing better, or planned their build better, or farmed the right gear, or simply put more time into the game, but because they’re luckier.
Corruption is basically all the worst parts of the Legion Legendary loot system, combined with the god awful “grind this arbitrary garbage to actually use your gear” of the Azerite loot system.
You have to admire how oblivious Blizzard’s developers are.
That is the entire point. Now in shadowlands we will go back to tity/warforge and everyone will stop complaining and just saying well at least it’s not corruption. Thats how blizz is going to get all you.
Systems, systems, and more systems. Gotta grind to play, and it’s cheaper to make a bar to fill than a new set to complete.
The guy in charge of the time-played-per-reward formula needs to tweak it a bit to the left. Lot a bit, if I’m honest. That formula was designed in an era when getting the mythic goober to drop WAS the challenge. That was the test. This gear + corruption + rank roll is only really good if you move the gear acquisition to left by 66%, something more akin to Path of Exile or old school diablo.
You gotta pick a lane. The current system feels terrible. If you don’t have EV, IS, or TD, you can’t compete. It’s not a “oh, I’m not the top, but I’m still competitive”, no the tank with EV is doing more dps and you’re in a carry position until RNGesus blesses you.
The idea behind corruption is cool. Probably would have worked better in its current form as an extension of enchanting, but having a finite number of triple RNG rolls is just disastrous.
It FEELS terrible, and really that’s all that matters.
I’m enjoying the system and the procs of things have been pretty fun, plus I do love the corruption shadowy effect on my characters. I don’t raid however and I know it’s had a different impact in endgame content then it has in the rest of the game, and not really a good impact as it makes RNG determinate on your progression, rather then just a small stat boost.
It’s something thematic for only this patch, not something they’re carrying forward, so there’s that. I do hope they put in a transmog though for that corruption effect going forward for characters that want to stay old god loyal.
