Is this true? I’ve seen a few folks say it. If true, what a stupid idea. Why remove an iconic weapon and replace it with another weapon either better stats. Just upgrade the stats of it on SoD…I have a feeling they won’t add it back in Phase 8 to be cleansed

If they did move it, I agree, it’s a moronic choice. Ashbringer is one of VERY few weapons that actually is dropped by the boss who is wielding it, not just some random loot from some random guy.

The wielder of Corrupted Ashbringer is Alexandros Mograine who is part of the Four Horsemen. Why would it not drop from Naxx?
Huge disappointment if true. The sword is one of, if not the coolest items in Classic.
If you look at wowhead, the new datamined sword (Blade of Inquisition) seems to be what replaced Ashbringer. They massively dropped the ball on this one.
I still remember reading the forums over 20 years ago when the original Legendary version was datamined and all the crazy theories players were coming up with as they ran all over the world looking for it. This was a chance to finally have this happen and they ruined it.
And don’t give me the “It will be in the Scarlet” dungeon speculation. That makes no sense. The wielder of it is Mograine. It not dropping from him makes absolutely no sense. It should have dropped from him and THEN be cleansed when “insert Scarlet content” was released.
Don’t FO Blizzard, corrupted ashbringer is the unique reason of why i’m playing ret paladin and not GODmode shamans in SoD.
I don’t want to use the purified one from retail that item is horrible and this is the PHASE for corrupted ashbringer to drop…

This is such crap, a bunch of us are here for the Corrupted Ashbringer… why screw with the playerbase by making it unusable, and unlootable just to make some scarlet character have it? Who cares about this new inquisitor? We dont really know this guy… could have had Renault grab it (And of course have him and sally survive to make this happen) and I would have been less irritated. Imagine how awesome the rp moments would be of him and whitemane struggling to keep Alexandros from murdering Renault as he was using the sword lmao
Purified and Sanctified Ashbringer should be Paladin-only continuations of the Corrupted Ashbringer chain, beginning in Naxx. A Warrior variant to Tormented Ashbringer, adding iconic Death Knight elements to get Arms Warriors back on the map as a valid damage spec would be a nice touch too.
But, I have a feeling the SoD team has shifted around a bit since the early days. Mage getting BFA/SL garbage powers is a MASSIVE red flag of mental stagnation (ie https://www.wowhead.com/spell=288460/brain-storm tier 3 bonus). If the team now are the same schmoes responsible for those dumpster fires, I don’t expect any sort of thinking to happen about “what’s fun and makes sense”. Just more systemslands slop.

That’s the thing though, canonically this is not what happened, we did not get Ashbringer and put it in our bank. Somehow the sword ended up in the hands of Mograine’s son Darion.
The Scarlet raid will likely reveal what happened to put the sword in its proper place.
