They do not have a 2 hour weekly game maintenance . Also I never mentioned that. Your earlier arguments were that other companies don’t have this and that you have decided that the occasional potentially longer maintenance is unacceptable. You have arbitrarily decided this window is unacceptable and is based on them not caring about their customers.

But this isn’t “something goes wrong” so much as it’s scheduled maintenance. Blizzard itself says so in their notification.

The length of the maintenance indicates that something has gone wrong. Especially after the servers fell over a few days ago.

I’m not sure you quite understand what the word “unfounded” means but that’s pretty clear evidence that I was precisely correct in saying that “Blizzard doesn’t have the greatest track record with regards to customer communication or customer service.”

Speaking the truth doesn’t require being toxic, that’s something you’re doing extra. But you’re also not speaking the whole truth, you’re leaving out giant parts of the truth so you can keep pretending to have a point.

My argument has been solely that you are wrong that Blizzard is doing the best possible job that can be done in managing their maintenance windows.

I never once said they were doing the best possible job. That’s something you made up entirely on your own and I demand an apology for you making up words and stuffing them in my mouth. But I won’t get that. I’ll get more random links that have nothing to do with server maintenance because you have about as much experience at it as I do.

There’s no difference at all between an exchange of damage and other state-altering effects and an exchange of currency as far as a database is concerned.

I find it hard to believe that the times involved in managing bank transactions are the same as a real time world like WoW.

I believe the issue with an 8 hour maintenance, when normally they are a couple of hours, if that these days… is Blizzard’s lack of communication one what is going on. We are left to sit and wonder if there is something wrong with the game, will they be extending maintenance later (minutes before it should be up and running) is this in preparation for an upcoming patch launch they haven’t announced a date on yet and are waiting to tell us until a week or three days before it launches? The list goes on. If there was a little bit of communication between Blizzard and the subs, this sort of thread and the snide comments toward one another might not be such an issue. Just a thought.

Again, my only argument was that Rankin’s statement that it was not possible to do better than they’re doing was untrue.

Many companies with far more complex systems than this do it on a regular basis.

My daughters and I picked up branches in the front yard (had a pretty bad storm) buried a baby bird that fell out of a nest last night, cleaned out my car (vacuumed as well) watched some funny YouTube videos with them, and read my oldest daughters auto biography she wrote at the end of the school yr. I’m all for communication, but this is server maintenance. The servers have undergone maintenance on the same day for 13+ years now. This is not new or interesting stuff. Long server downtime does not necessarily mean a patch is incoming. In the meantime I doubt anybody here on the forums would want a blue post detailing the lives of a few computer guys resetting servers.

… But maybe they would.
