What are the correct keybinds to use? IE qwerty because they are right below 12345 which is the default buttons. I just don’t want to play the game incorrectly. What keybinds should i use???
Whatever youre comfortable with.
I use Alt + and Shift +
The only true way is to get a naga and don’t use A-z or 1-= on your keyboard.
1-12 on the side of your mouse + alt/shift binds.
I use a fairly varied amount of keybinds. I’ll list some for you, so maybe you can get some inspiration.
I use WASD for movement, and then 1 through 5 for combat spells, then 6, 7 and 8 for mounts (6 is Dragonriding mount, 7 is Repair/Mog Yak and 8 and regular Flying mount)
Then I use Q, E, F, V, G, R and T plus shift modifiers (same with 1-5) for other combat spells, along with Middle Mouse, and Mouse 4 and 5. Usually I try and keep the same kind of spell across each toon so my muscle memory sticks better on my alts. For example, Shift+2 is always my interrupt. Q is almost always my main defensive, E and Shift E are my main cooldowns. Mouse 4 and Mouse 4+Shift is a movement ability. V is most often an AOE. T and Shift T are CCs usually. You get the idea. Then I use Shift+C for Health Potion, Shift+X is my On-Use Trinket.
I also have a Razer Naga Hex, so my mouse has 7 side buttons although I don’t tend to use them all. I actually prefer a different mouse but I’m having to RMA it because one of the buttons got stuck. I use a Corsair M65 usually because it has 4 side buttons in a nice grid which I find it plenty and easy to press.
Anyway, just use whatever binds you find the most comfortable. Honestly if I didn’t have 20 years of using WASD in my muscle memory, I’d probably switch to using ESDF for movement because it gives you the same easy access to Space/Shift/Caps etc as WASD but opens up more buttons on the left side and just as many on the right. If you have no preference for WASD, I’d recommend trying ESDF. That way you get QWS you can easily press with your ring finger as opposed to just Q with WASD and your pinky can still easily rest on Shift.
Well, that’s all I have to say on the topic. Probably too much information but I find keybinds interesting to discuss. Everyone has such different ideas of what is comfortable - someone is gonna look at mine and think they look absolutely awful, and someone else will probably be like “Oh that’s exactly what I do!”. I found a couple of people use the same Shift+2 for interrupt and I definitely like it. It’s really easy to press quickly by just sliding my middle finger up from W which is important in M+ and PVP when kicking an important spell quickly can be the difference between a win and a loss.
Good luck with your own binds, and let me know if you need any help
You seem nice. Nice enough to attempt to help a notorious troll. Check into their posting history and see for yourself.
What ever is comfortable for your hand.
I tend to use tilde-5, R and F with shift/alt/ctrl variants.
Movement abilities including mount are on my mouse buttons, again with shift/alt/ctrl variants if needed.
Thanks Malignia for the tips.
They gave me a couple of new ideas.
PS don’t listen to the group of posters that think everyone that posts on this forum is trolling, (themselves excluded, of course)
Wow this is very informative and i have been playing the game wrong the entire time
Preach did a video awhile ago on keybinds that I think most people would find useful.
Just go to YouTube and search preach gaming keybinds im sure it’ll come up.
There’s no right answer to this question. Use whatever feels right for you.
However, don’t be afraid of trying out new things, maybe you’ll find a distribution that works better for you than what you’re using.
For me, and this is completely personal, the best distribution is this:
WASD for movement, but A and D are used for Strafe. No key turning.
1,2,3,4,5 and rarely 6 are reserved for medium cooldowns (stuff like 30-45 secs CD). Yeah, this isn’t the usual, but it works for me. 4 is usually a trinket. On tanks, 1 is always taunt.
Shift plus 1,2,3 and maybe 4 are reserved for long offensive cooldowns (2-3 mins).
Q, E and R are reserved for my most used spells, as well as Shift combinations plus Q and E. Shift+R is awkward for me, so I don’t really use it much.
Shift+D, Shift+S and Shift+W are reserved for stuff that I need to cast, channel, or otherwise need me to stay in one place.
Shift+A is for some stuff I don’t use too often, but I need to use quickly (teleports, some defensive CC).
Z is for my raid cooldown. It’s a key that’s a little awkward to press, so I use it for stuff I usually plan on advance when to use.
X and C I use for stuff that’s off the GCD and on a short CD. Shimmer, Tanks active mitigation, etc.
V is for Hearthstone and/or Health Potions.
F is my most used Crowd Control. Shift+F for the second most used. G for the third and Shift+G for very situational CC.
T is for offensive dispels or other form of utility, as well as Shift+T for utility I rarely use.
Shift+X and Shift+C are my personal defensives. It’s very easy to use these, even if they involve Shift.
Also, I use a button on my mouse for interrupt and another for stuff I need to renew on the target (Stuff like Shadow Word: Pain).
The common theme is that my little finger is resting on Shift, my thumb is close to Z, X, C and V (which are commonly defensive or about positioning), and the rest of the keys are all close to my other 3 fingers.
Over the years I’ve also used the mouse wheel up and down. It’s extremely easy and fast to use it, but it tends to cause pain on my fingers, so I’ve tried to abandon it.
Again, this is just my personal distribution. It’s in no way a claim about it being the best.
everybody is different. I am sure that anyone who saw my fingers trying to do my stuff would say that my binds are a mess. they are. much of my “design” choices stem from first learning about modifiers while raid healing. those basic ideas worked their way into dps/tank button planning
I use my mouse for most movements. keyboard turning is turned off. forward, back and strafe are still available.
I think about my action bar layout and key bindings relating to my left and right hands. my frequent abilities are keybound and operated with my left hand.
my key binding letters and numbers tend to be those clustered around the w (forward), s (backwards), q/e (strafe left right). so E, R, D, G, H are typical for less frequent abilities.
Targeting, movement and less frequent abilities are on the right side of my action bars and are often clicked.
it just feels super awkward to me to reach with my left hand over to the 0 and lose the feel for its place on the left side of the keyboard. It is often much simpler to click the ability on the 0 with my mouse allowing my left hand to continue its button mashing over there on the left.
I also tab target. i use a mouse with 2 buttons on the side that are both for strafing. even with the mouse buttons on strafe, i tend to use Q to strafe left and my side mouse button to strafe right. not really sue why lol
on the keyboard my main abilities for tanks/dps are on the 1,2,3,4,5 buttons.
i try to map them out for the general use between them all.
1 is typically a charge/felblade ability
3 is my main ability/spam button
2,4 are filler/proc buttons
5 is usually the basic aoe button
d is always my interrupt
i use shift to modify my 1-5 buttons. these vary a lot. shift-3 tends to be my shield type ability.
for healing, my damage abilities are laid out like my dps spec. my basic healing abilities are mouseover via clique.
but to each his own.
24601 is ideal.
Arrow keys for movement
Joystick to move the cursor and select spells.
Does this mean you decided to re-up your sub and lose your job so you can keep playing? You gotta give us the full update!
i actually play on a laptop so my keybinds work w that
1-5 is non rotational but important spells that i use often,
q is either bread and butter or a cd, w-t are rotational
and basically everything slides down based on how often i use them
asd are usually movement boost buttons, and then alt (1,2,a,s) is stuff like pots and trinkets that i havent macrod, rezzes etc
you dont wanna know how i actually move
I have most of the keys on my numpad bound.
