Coping with loss of Characters

I’ll give this a separate reply because I didn’t purchase clones. We voted as a guild to move to TBC. It wasn’t my preference but these were people I love to game with (many of us are now on the EQ2 Origins server) and to benefit my friends/guild I advanced the characters needed/wanted for progression.

I always knew in the back of my mind I could level more in Era and would enjoy that. Not only did I do that but played (FRESH!) seasonal as well. So not lemming behavior because I wanted to continue with friends. But I didn’t cry about being cheated or tricked into purchasing clones either.

I think that’s the right approach.

It is almost always a good time to make a new toon on vanilla, so even if one did lose their toons, if they love vanilla it is no problem they will just make new ones.

Personally I find it hard to have lots of sympathy for people crying because they lost toons due to not clicking a few buttons with 500+ days to act. Sure it sucks, but just roll a fresh toon if you love the game  or play something else otherwise.

Quoted for (my) absolute truth.
May be different for some but Era will always have my heart.

My mantra was the same as yours. I moved everything over to TBC and beyond and was more than happy to start fresh on Era each time things died down to just doing raids. It is a great time to level right now. No matter what changes I can always chill out in Era WoW to avoid the burnout any other version.

Somehow I knew you’d pop in with that. That post was 3 years ago, you didn’t read it then and you didn’t read my current one now. I’m also allowed to change my perspective on things. I mean, I know you guys never do but hey, the rest of us can.

Reported for trolling. Though I guess I’m touched that you keep that post bookmarked so you can trot it out now and again. It’s nice to have a fan!

I’m not judging those that moved on because they had a desire to see it again - or for the first time. There were a few younger folks in our guild that didn’t pick up Wow until much later so I get their desire to see it as close to the original as Blizzard saw fit to give us.

The vote was much closer for moving to Wrath and progression to Cataclysm was soundly defeated. Some went to seasonal but many of us moved on to other games. Not sure that even a FRESH would be enough to get the band back together in Classic sadly.

I love this idea and it was really kind to take the time to respond so thoughtfully.

You’re a good one.

P.S. Pretty sure I’m on the spectrum, too. I can replay & rewatch the same content over and over. I actually prefer it.

Id bet real money this is the case. The threads can be found way back in my post history but I distinctly remember the deadline coming up and people starting threads saying “better hurry and clone” and the overwhelming response was “Era is dead, the game sucks and its not worth the $5 to clone”.

It got even better afterwards when Era started getting popular again and people were playing their “I was in a coma for two years after saving nuns from a bus fire during an earthquake” card only for it to be revealed that these were the same people who went on to TBC/Wrath with their Naxx geared toons.

Yeah, of course its a travesty the way they handled clones when you cant immediately opt back into your three T3+ geared toons after saying you didnt want too

Because they are allowed to post about how they feel.
Again, don’t like it, don’t read it. You knew what the thread is about yet here you are creating drama pretending you’re some sort of forum content cop.

Put the thread on ignore, it’s really that simple man.

Classic projection.

Are you talking about how all our Wrath of the Lich King characters were forced to go to the crappy Cata “Classic”? Yeah, I’m pissed, as I had tons of maxed out characters. I was enjoying just roaming around, helping lowbies, buffing, healing, etc. Cata for me ruined my fun, as we had no choice like we did when Classic went to TBC. So now I play WoW Classic Season of Discovery.

I am mourning the “loss” of my toons I put so much effort into throughout Classic, who now have to stay in Cata which was where I stopped playing WoW back in the day. Thought I’d give it a fair shot this time, but…nope, was reminded why I quit at Cata in the first place. I never raided back in the day, and have done so during Classic, so all that effort…gone. At least I still have my memories…

Cloning was barely discussed by blizzard, and then simply done away with without any real fanfare.

In my case, when cloning was announced, I simply believed it was for progression to BC, not to keep the characters on classic.

Frankly it was a lazy cashgrab by them. They didn’t need to make BC classic or Wrath classic, and certainly not Cata classic which no one asked for.

What do you mean “in your case”? It was literally announced here for everyone’s cases:

What they intended to do with Cloning and the Realms themselves. They announced way in advance that they would continue to progress the realms to The Burning Crusade at the very least.

Each character can be unlocked once for free either in Burning Crusade Classic or World of Warcraft Classic.

Emphasis mines. You had the choice to stay for free, forever on Classic Era.

Just as players asked for Classic Era, players also clamored for the return to TBC and Wrath, even now they still want to. In your opinion you don’t like it, that’s fine. But let’s not frame it like you talk for the whole playerbase.

Why should I have to put them on ignore? I’d support them if they’d actually try something other than this self pity crap. Start a petition? I’ll sign it for them, I’ll support them. And if it isn’t whining what else do you call it? It’s fine to sate your displeasure once or twice, but check the threads. We have the same people complaining in 15+ threads over almost two years, if that isn’t whining, what is?

You expect people to believe this. Hilarious, thanks for the laugh.

You should know, you’re whining as well.

Save Blizzard did ask, I received one of the surveys and I stated in every single “What would you like to see from Blizzard in future WoW content” box I mentioned I wanted a Wrath Classic server as Warcraft was a trilogy that ends with the story of Arthas. Deathwing retreated after being spanked in two by the Alliance only playing a minor role in the game.

The data showed that the reception wasn’t 100% for it, but the results weren’t anywhere near as terrible as they thought it would be and they were giving us an accelerated cycle as the number 1 complaint was content drought with the expansion taking too long.

I also have zero idea how you could read five sentences when they announced Era and how clones worked and came to your conclusion. They literally stated you had to choose one server or another, and the clone would allow you to do both. If you logged in at all during that time frame there was a box that popped up that you had to make a choice to stay or move on, and then type your character name to progress it over for every single character on your roster.

I didn’t go to TBC either… my character was level 54 when TBC dropped and I had to stop playing around that time.

I ALWAYS cared about my Vanilla toons and knew I would eventually come back to finish leveling them all when life settled down. When I did, they were gone.

Nice, tossing insults is proving you have no argument

Nothing can be done (imo), I just don’t see any reason to harass poster who are here discussing how they feel about their loss. Seems as if you are doing this for attention.

Projection 101

No you’re not, you’re here to stir the pot and get a minute in the spotlight, kiddo.

Thanks, glad you can finally see that. :+1:t4:

I’m not here to write novels. If you’re truly unimpressed, you’d just ignore and move on.

Funny, and just like you complaining about my complaining, (but by your logic you’re totally not) you then proceed to squawk the same advice you yourself can take. I’ve offered at least some semblance of something that might actually give them a solution to their problem, what exactly have you contributed?

You at anytime could have moved on as well, yet here you are, wanting to stir the pot with your contradictions. Jumped in at the first opportunity to complain about my complaining. Perhaps you’re the OP who posted this and bailed to start drama to begin with. Pot, meet kettle.
