Coolest Wow Addon - Blizzard please reconsider

Dear blizzard, I am a questor and love the lore. Reading the quest time and time again gets old. Why cant this addon be allowed? I mean look at the quality here, and your own customers were doing to good lords work on this one.

Please make this addon acceptable again, so I can record some quest audio for the tauens. I have a deep voice and sound like a cow.

Blizzard didnt like this addon, I read about it on reddit. They sent them a letter to make it stop…

What a shame, I am sure some crazy’s will be on here to tell us why it broke the law.

But it appears this addon did nothing except make the game better for those who chose to install the addon…

I’m pretty sure Blizzard literally cannot allow an addon with full-blown voice acting like this to exist simply because there’s a lot of contractual/Union-related legal stuff involved with it that Blizzard doesn’t want to mess around with. A huge number of companies that work with professional voice actors and their talent agencies would get into a lot of possible legal trouble for stuff like what this addon possibly opens up.

Josh Allen (Lore), back when he was still working with Blizzard in terms of content creator relations, contacted the parties involved and told them that this was a HUGE no from Blizzard’s legal team even though he himself really appreciated the work involved.

It would objectively be better for the game if this existed, but there are SO MANY contractual/legal issues with an addon like this that it isn’t even funny and Blizzard isn’t technically in the wrong for shooting this idea down. These VAs would be in a very odd position where they aren’t, but also are, “employed” by Blizzard without actually being hired. How do you even handle that sort of stuff, especially if one of the VAs suddenly wants to come after Blizzard and expect compensation for something they didn’t actually get hired by Blizzard for?

Blizzard could not allow this addon because its not fair to the hordes, as Orcs are not smart enough to use mics.

True story, seen it on the internet.

The legal issues surrounding unionized voice actors is a potential issue, but the other things is that I don’t think Blizzard likes it when users can add content in the game that technically isn’t theirs. See the ToS revision for Starcraft II and Warcraft III that makes all custom maps property of Blizzard.

blizzard didn’t like it ??
yet the dumb company abuses their workers…
yep - logic dumb company…

Cool Addon, User created content, User created voice, User labor hours, no financial impact to blizzard, no resources needed from blizzard to maintain, enhances game experience for those who choose to use this.

Sounds like something Blizzard would hate to be honest, too many wins for the customer. Not being rude, just being honest from what I have seen from these guys for the last few years.

Voices in the video is top notch! This seems like such a fun thing. From the comments on the video on youtube, it sounds like people were enjoying themselves making these.

While I get they might not be able to use this particular one because of legal issues etc, an option to do this ingame would be fabulous. All they would need to do is pass the job to one of their sub-companies (like the old Vicarious Visions) and have them make it within Blizzard’s conditions and rules. It would certainly take a lot of work as there thousands of quests but its something they could activate in stages; say Vanilla quests first, and then TBC, and so on.

Id certainly love to see it done as an option.

I would appreciate this addon because I cant read.

I love the idea of me clicking on a quest, having the full normally available quest scroll pop up with a voice acted audio version playing if toggled in the UI.

I don’t love the ‘twitching’ talking head or abbreviated quest scroll.

(Yes, I realize this is an addon and therefore completely optional.)

There are two reasons why I can see Blizzard banning this addon.

First is that it takes away the creative license that Blizzard has in regard to who they have as the voice of a character. An addon like this could become super popular and that would mean thousands of players associating the addon voice actors with a character instead of Blizzard’s hired voice actor. This could be even worst if the addon voice actors are good. I know this may not seem important but I know of people can be picky when voice actors change.

Second is not being able to control what is said in the voice over. Right now there is an honor system that the addon will stick to the in game quest dialog but that is not a given. Even if it is not this addon the door has been opened for something similar to be created that may take a more “creative” approach to questing dialogs.

I would like to see this addon make a come back to the game because I saw nothing but good things said about it. People praised it for adding to their immersion and making it fun to redo quests on alts. Sadly I have no ideas on how Blizzard would go about making this addon a thing again.

This addon looks AMAZING!

I just use the Immersion addon and my imagination.

Yeah that was my guess as well.

TREMENDOUS

to voice act every quest? I wouldn’t do that if I was paid

Or they could just do it themselves. Blizzard is a triple-A, Multi-Billion dollar company, not to mention there are several modern, triple-A, MMO’s that are fully voice acted.

Honestly, standard full quest dialogue voice acting should kinda be standard and I am surprised that this has not happened yet.

If you were getting paid for it you’d get that Tom Kenny or Tara Strong salary for how many thousands upon thousands of lines you’d be reading if you had the vocal range to voice hundreds of different male characters.

Hell, you might even make the Frank Welker bucks, although Frank Welker probably did every single animal voice in this game (as well as voicing stuff like Y’shaarj already) so you’d have your work cut out for you.

Go after blizzard and expect compensation? What are you on? This is a fan project. it’s no different than the voiced fan mods on the steam workshop for games. There is no chance of any legal trouble happening to blizzard for a multitude of reasons. The biggest one being that none of the people who did the voice work were ever under any contracts. A contract is the only way for them to be able to bring up a legal dispute for money. No contract, no claim. They could try to bring it up, but it’d immediately be shut down. There is no ramification towards blizzard with this. They could just act unaware ofit existing and they’d be fine.
