Is there any listing of cooking recipe ingredient locations. Such as: what territory can I find deer steaks or clam claws etc?
Try wowhead, great cooking guide there.
go to classic wowhead and type in the search bar whatever item it is you are looking for. It will tell you everywhere you can get it.

i got cooking 300 on bot my character i can tell you that lv cooking cost around 5 gold to 300 but its cost me nothing because use trash fish from my fishing to lv me up.
every piece of meat can be cooked for something. Look at ah some of those meat are worth 1 silver. 1 silver for 1 skill rank is something …something.
the hardest part in cooking is too get all recipe needed to lv 300 and its barely harder to go from tanaris to booty bay. I remember cooking to be much more annoying in tbc.
stag meat in real life is much more valuable than classic wow am just gonna say that
