Cooking not worth it

I cant believe we have to catch 15 fish to make 10 fresh fillets and 5 fish, plus 5 meat stock, and some spices to make 1-3 uses of restorative food for example sweet and spicy soup. That’s 15 to 25 fish for the fresh fillet and 5 single fish. I think I will be skipping cooking. Whoever thought that was a fair return on investment of time and materials needs to find something else to do for a living.

I think the only thing cooking is good for are the feasts.

the watered down version of “should be fired”.

All the professions feel like this imo. I was going to try professions just to give myself something new to try in this game but my god how tedious and stupid they are.

I’ll stick to buying a wow token every now and then and playing something actually fun. Amazes me that the only thing I can find I enjoy in this game is m+ and even that can be infuriating a lot of the time because of the nature of pugging.

Cooking is the new First Aid, basically pointless (outside of Feasts).

Maybe it was a genius move on Blizz to make the professions both as complex and pointless (except at the very top end) as possible since they have never liked them, hoping that for the next xpac they can just do away with them finally.

Removing professions from the game would be stupid and a lot of people would be pissed. If you don’t like something don’t do it?

Professions is the only good thing this game has anymore.

I’ve been leveling it with a pretty positive attitude, enjoying myself during early access with maxing fishing and working on profession leveling.

I got to 50 cooking, and I’m confronted with recipes that require so many ingredients and offer (at the start, at least) only 1-3 stacks of the finished buff food, that I’m wondering how on earth this got past the meetings and into the final game product.

For example, the Sizzling Honey Roast, which is not a feast but a normal, garden variety Stam/Strength buff food a tank might use in dungeons, requires 10x Hot Honeycomb, which only drops at 1% or less rate from level 80 elite bees and at 3% drop from elite bees inside of a dungeon. So…in order to get one of these Sizzling Honey Roasts, I have to farm for hours and hours on bees.

Don’t even look at the materials required for feasts. It will make even those of us who love fishing and cooking in this game faint. As the supply and bank officer in my guild, I’m generally the one who happily whiles away my hours fishing and cooking for the raid groups and M+ groups so that the guild bank stays stocked with what we all use. I will absolutely not be able to do that in War Within.

The other kicker is quantity. Many of these recipes say you will get a 3-stack of the food, but as I’m leveling my cooking now (I have the hat and rolling pin), I am frequently getting only a single item from recipes that claim I’ll get three. I assume after cooking is maxed out and we start using all the bits and bobs, that will go up, but the point is: This is not fun.

A video game should be fun. Even the parts that require a grind should be fun. It’s a game. Who did this? Who said, “You know what? Screw the tanks. Let’s make them all grind bees for 15 hours so that they might or might not have a stack of buff food for M+ pugging”

Seriously, whose idea was that?

I love fishing and I’ve gone hard on it during early access, but even leveling 1-300 has not garnered me enough fish to keep up with what it would take to keep myself in buff food, much less make enough items to keep my guild in good nick for group content.

The cooking is seriously imbalanced this time.

basically every profession requires botted materials

Enchanting should be a secondary

I used to like professions until they decided to make them unnecessarily convoluted and tedious and fill our bags with different quality mats. I was going to try to get into them again this expansion but this doesn’t sound very promising lol

Exactly. It’s like they designed these professions for the goblins and bots, not for the players. I mean…this kind of design that exhausts and frustrates players is going to encourage bot farming rather than discouraging it.

If cooking doesn’t get some adjustments, it will either burn people out or they just won’t do it.

I actually like the concept of the more complicated and useful professions. Truly. I just think they’re so used to the economy being run by bots that they forgot how those of us who play actually operate.

With my former example, make it cost only one Hot Honeycomb for the 3-stack, and make the drop rate 5% instead of 1%, and put it on regular mobs instead of elites that only spawn in one tiny area (again, just inviting bots) and a dungeon.

I can see the pink slips flying based on how professions are treated in TWW.

Of course you are. A lot of us are printing money with early profession stuff right now. That’s how it always works at the beginning.

What I’m looking at, in this eleventieth expansion, is a forecast for lots and lots of grind fatigue before the .1 patch is even a glimmer on the horizon.

The professions in TWW are designed for botters in mind and not players that actually play and engage the game.

Lineage 2 made the same mistake with C2 update and it took them until Chronicles 3 to undo that damage.

Fortunately I find the fishing fun in TWW. The part that gives me a bit of anxiety is that I don’t yet have a sense of which fish I should be cutting up and which I should be saving whole. I’m sure I’ll be kicking myself later that I “wasted” something that creates a bottleneck later on.

Yeah I’m glad that I am not the only one who noticed this. It’s like 10k gold to craft a single feast right now lmao.

It’s so convoluted and pointless. They need to completely redesign all professions, AGAIN. They can’t seem to make them not annoying and offputting, nothing about them is enjoyable right now, ESPECIALLY cooking/fishing.

Let’s not even mention Archaeology, that thing which they have just pretended doesn’t exist anymore because they’re too lazy and inept to expand on it and keep it in the game, they just straight abandoned it.
