So with the talk of faction merging being shot around, I have to ask those who’re still on the whole. “If we merge faction’s, IMA UNSUB! THAT’LL SHOW THEM!”…Do you really want this faction war to keep going? I mean, at this point, I feel like it hurts the game to have this war that keeps going on and off like a bad relationship.
Nah, they won’t be quitting. It’s just grandpappy vanilla player having a senior moment and raging against change.
I’d wager they won’t go anywhere, they will make a few complaint posts on the forums, but that sub will stay active and they will fall in line, or just play classic which is still giving Blizz a sub.
Now whether or not they think keeping the faction war going is a good idea, they will probably say yes, if nothing else than just for the sake of maintaining status quo.
They don’t need to keep the faction war going to keep the factions separated.
Also, they could actually try to write something decent when doing the whole faction war.
I’m a wrath baby that would quit if the factions were merged.
There’s only one why to find out if this is actually true or not…
Odd, we had two factions before the faction war began. The only thing they need to do is come up with a fitting ending to wrap up the war and we go back to our cold war with one another. Merging factions would be among the dumbest in a long list of dumb ideas they have added to the game.
While I wouldn’t mind the factions merging, I can see how people are afraid warcraft could lose it’s identity.
I played during vanilla, and I absolutely hate these “Back in my day types.” I can promise you, that vanilla will probably have half the players it will at launch once people realize that their resistances are way to low to raid. It’s gonna be just like watching your favorite action movie that you loved for the special effects as a kid… Until you watch it as an Adult and realize that it gives you a headache. You then realize you just wanted it for the memories. Especially considering most of the nerds screaming “I WANT MY NILLER” are the same people that cry incessantly about not being able to fly after they scream “Back in my day, you were lucky to own your first mount”
As far as the OP goes, i think it would be a great twist to have faction neutrality as an option. Why not? If you can’t give me a reason as to why players can’t be neutral other than “I’lL UnSuBbBbBbB”, do everyone a favor and make good on your promise and leave. This is the biggest issue that exist in this game today. Too many people believe that the game should be played THEIR way by everyone, and anyone who doesn’t agree is a filthy casual who doesn’t belong in their game.
What if they give us the option to be loyal to our respective faction races and leaders and NEUTRAL towards the opposite ones. We see them. We nod. We work with them when it’s necessary but we generally avoid them. We can go into their cities but we get heckled by the commoners like death knights whenever we’re there. Make it an unpleasant but not fatal experience that discourages is from going there unless we just HAVE to. Even the vendors won’t sell to us or take our crap. That seems reasonable. The faction war is over. There was no winner because of mutually assured destruction. I don’t wanna cozy up to either the skinny, mangy, or fat humans. But if I have to go to Boralus or Stormwind because it’s necessary for the welfare of THE WORLD I will go.
One thing is very apparent, Blizzard has a terrible story development team and for these guys to kick start their creativity, the concept of factions should be sent straight to the bin. It’s 2019 already and this game is almost 15 years old, it’s time to make some big changes.
One thing I have to keep in mind as well is that the decision “could” have already been made. Expansions and patches aren’t just created within a month or two.
There’s enough writing on the wall pointing where events may go.
We’ll see…

Two aspects to this issue, the story and the gameplay.
Storywise, the faction war has been nonsense since at least Wrath. There is no way leaders like Thrall, Vol’jin, Cairne, Varian, Velen, etc would direct their armies at each other in a never-ending war against each other when world-ending threats exist that, storywise, require the two factions to work together. Blizzard apparently recognized this, as well, so they chose the Horde to be a breeding ground for evil villains that forces Horde players into a civil war and forces Alliance players to watch their faction be too weak to just finish the Horde off.
In gameplay, it divides the playerbase from playing together, which is a bad idea. You could allow inter-faction cooperation without abolishing the factions entirely.
From both perspectives, the conflict does far more harm than good for the game.
“Death to the living!”
Benefactors of classic all know that there will be no flying in classic. That is actually one of the draws. It is a bit of a nuanced thought, but put succinctly, it seems fair not to fly in classic because no one flies in classic.
It is a world where that can’t be taken away and cordoned off only for those who can endure the most mind-numbing repetitive tasks and kiss enough rectrices to satisfy the peacocks that their creations have been appropriately appreciated.
And yes, getting that first mount was a bit of a big deal. Clearly it will be again, being no simpler a task than it was back in the day.
Or painted as a gibbering classic nerd with no idea about how the game is played.
I can agree that there are indeed too many people like that. But this is a forum and one is likely to find all manners of ideas and opinions here.
I can’t say it would not solve some problems to offer a centralized factional stance. It would certainly cause some problems too. It might provide a much desired distraction from their ongoing flight dumpster-fire.
If people want to unsub then they certainly should, but I don’t know that a neutrality or faction shift option would make that happen. I don’t feel like the option to select a faction without regard to race would defeat the sense of investment people may have with the game.
Indeed it might draw more people.
I don’t know that faction will be handled in that way but it seems smarter that just saying PRESTO factions gone!
How would pvp play out? is it an end to pvp?
If it becomes one big friendly duel ohh gawd how boring…world pvp would consist of asking another player to turn on pvp mode before the fight begins …blick
isn’t this just speculation on streamers and commentators. It’s as likely to happen as belves joining the Alliance in MoP when Lorthemar and Varian were in talks about the belves rejoining the Alliance.
We don’t even have co-op dungeons or raids and can’t even cross faction talk and yet people are seriously entertaining this as a possible idea?
I mean, you could open it up to be a free for all too.
Not that I necessarily think factions should go away. Maybe an option to allow a player to be neutral but that is as far as I could see it going.
I want it to not end in a cliche “lol let’s kill another evil Horde warchief and then be friends.” If there’s a merge because of that and we’re just supposed to worship the “mahhonor” narrative, I’ll prolly leave.
There’s hatred between many still and there always will be. If they just ignore that entirely for a bad story even more than they are doing now, hard pass.
If they DON’T do it in the most boring and terrible way possible, then sure. Why not. Factions should have merged after LEGION. This whole expansion is nonsense.
Warcraft has always been about war. Humans vs orcs, primarily.
If we merge factions, we’re killing the heart of the ip, and what its all based on.
I’m all for adding a third faction, to create more conflict, but removing the faction war is a bad idea
yeah I don’t want that either, I like helping my fellow faction peeps out. If I see someone losing a wpvp event I jump in and help…I don’t wanna be beaten to a pulp by those that only seriously raid …I cant compete with the gear as a casual with no time to get mythic gear
