Controversial take, BFA's first 3 Patch zones were absolutely amazing

Vol’dun, Zuldazar, Tiragard Sound, Stormsong Valley, Mechagon, Nazjatar…

Amazing zones, music, vibe, theme, everything.

I think the only drawback to that expansion was having to unlock warfront. If that campaign and the mission table on the boat did not exist and we could simply come and go from all six zones that would’ve made it so much more amazing.

Well that and… Azerite

Though Azerite Essences were amazing, different content to unlock different ones, just a flaw was that the PvP BG Honor one was annoying to get yet a BIS, aside from that…

Also other controversial take, Corruption was a great system

Other than Azerite, I liked BfA. I didn’t enjoy the whole story, but it was fun to play.

Especially what Chainsa said above, Corruptions were fun once you got the ones you needed for your spec.

BfA was a good distraction through the Covid lockdown here in my part of Canada when we couldn’t really do anything social at all. It allowed me to play with friends and not feel so lonely during that time.

I think I am fonder of BfA than maybe some other people but yeah, beautiful zones, GREAT soundtrack too.

Also Warfronts were cool and had some great t-mogs. I just wish I could solo them now. BLIZZARD make it so you don’t need to be in a raid group to solo them. I need to finish my heroic Arathi Highlands mog. :dracthyr_cry_animated:

That’s not controversial at all.

Note: I have a bias I started in SL so my levelling experience was BfA. It was a pretty good time.

Is there much opposition to that opinion though? I thought it was just endgane that was disliked.

People widely disliked the Azerite Power farm, just like most didn’t like the Artifact Power farming in Legion before it. They basically carried that system over, but the big difference was Legion Artifacts came with cool t-mogs while the Heart of Azeroth you couldn’t see, other than the activated abilities on it.

The story and direction of the game was criticized too. Also, a lot of people really disliked Nathanos Blightcaller.

Some things I didn’t like about it specifically were:

  • The Burning of Teldrassil and genocide of the night elves.
  • The undoing of Sylvanas’ cool moment in Legion where she became Warchief. I still remember getting goosebumps during the cutscene where she stands in front of the throne in Ogrimmar and it turns from night to day. She was surprised and it seemed like the first time she was humanized. I enjoyed that. Then she 180’d and became a villain.
  • N’zoth and Azshara not getting their own expansion dedicated to them. N’zoth was dealt with quickly and easily and that felt weird. And he was finished off with a Kamehameha basically. It was cheesy.

Azerite was never a issue for me as I never chased it. So the expansion was a positive playing experience. Minus the corruption stuff at the end but it was when the expansion was wrapping up.
So BFA has been my fav expansion as of so far. The zones, music, npc (voice actors) and generally all the side lore as it were. Fishing on the shores of Naz’mir with the dinos was a nice virutal gaming experience.
And Boralus is the knees bees.

The zones were good overall. I was not a fan of how we traveled between continents though. Would’ve preferred flying/flight paths/etc. Was the first expansion where that seamless world vibe (within the expansion) was gone…and then SL took it to the next level.

Idk this bothered me a lot

Hard disagree with this one. Nazjatar should’ve been a full on city zone, like what we are getting (hopefully) with Undermine. Instead it is just a bunch of coral reefs and Night Elven Ruins.

Given that it is meant to be the heart of the Naga Empire. Even the Eternal Palace looks weak, even more so for someone like Azshara.

Technically Cata would be. Ghostcaller even hated how the Cata zones (Hyjal, Vashj’ir, Twilight Highlands, Deepholm, Uldum and Tol Barad) were all split up and needed portals to effectively travel to. Even more so for Deepholm and Tol Barad as you could only access those via portals. Kinda makes sense for the former but not for the latter. No idea why they didn’t add Tol Barad to the EK map file like they did with Vashj’ir and Twilight Highlands.

It was the last expansion where Horde and Alliance had unique quests and experiences. I miss that.

Naz’jatar has to be the most beautiful zone in the whole game.

Until today, im in awe

Mechagon was nice.

However Nazjatar, the alleged Naga capital was too much elven ruins. Should have been closer to Suramar but naga architecture.

Vale in particular felt like a monkeys paw since we wanted a cleaned up vale and got one draped in purple and enemies everywhere.

Base zones were good, only issue was the 2 continents thing needing constant teleporting.

It was part of the night elf empire that was submerged under tidal waves and the sea. I’m sure you know that but it made sense that it was just sort of frozen in time. It was cool to see a bit of Zin-Azshari. It would have been much cooler if Azshara and the naga got their own expansion.

Why would the naga freeze it in time when they lived there?

It’s understandable with the ruins littered on land, but those within their very capital?

Problem with BFA was the systems surrounding it more than anything.

Warfronts were a flop.

Island Expeditions were also a flop.

I doubt anyone ever used let alone remembers the mission table.

Anything involving Azerite was just awful, specially the Azerite Armor that was an endless grind, which didnt help with Titanforging and later Corruption, Azerite singlehandedly ruined the expansion.

Mechagon and Nazjatar didnt help when it came to the whole grind, even having outrageous rare drops for good measure.

And the last patch not only had a baffling finale with N’zoth’s defeat, but it added even more system to grind.

It was just terrible.

Yeah, mission table was a downgrade from both Legion and WoD.

World quests were a downgrade from Legion.

Azurite was an uninviting mess.

Why would they change it? They were once night elves. Also underwater construction sounds complicated. :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

They didn’t seem to have issues building stuff a bit further down such as the palace.
