Contested Zones and Layering

Is there a technical or practical reason why we need to layer into the 30+ zones (Alterac, Arathi Highlands, Desolace, STV and beyond)?

Does taking this tech. out of these zones cut down the majority of layer hoping abuse that people are concerned about?

Already a fix for layer hopping abuse.

It’s unfortunately just how layering works.

Hindsight is 20/20, sharding the starter zones isn’t looking so bad anymore, is it layer haters?

I would love to see some confirmation from Blizzard on this “fix.”

If I have missed it somewhere, could someone link it? And no, not the thread that’s going. That’s not really confirmation from Blizzard. From what I understand it seems to be some beta testers have picked up on something.

Sharding and layering both is bad in my opinion. I find it funny Blizzard tossed the idea around of pristine servers years ago with no sharding being one of the benefits because they know how the community hates it, then they turn around and add a similar mechanic to Classic.

Wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for blizzard to confirm anything.

Amazed they have confirmed or clarified half the things they have regarding classic as is.

There aren’t actual abuse concerns, its just a bunch of streamers as usual taking things out of context and intentionally misleading players to get more views.

Things that streamers “forget” to mention:

  1. Layers will be gone after few weeks.

  2. Number of layers will be proportional to population. So instead of 3k players in one layer, there will be 12k players in 4 layers. Same amount of players per any resource.

We live in a time when fear mongering and fake news are tools used to influence and manipulate a largely ignorant global population.

Thanks for trying, though.

They don’t know how manny people, of lets say 3 layers ~9k people, will be left when people start hitting those lvl 30 zones.

So it’s all going ot be dynamic in like, look at the numbers and adjust acordingly.

It reintroduces the border disappearances that layering was created to fix…That’s the primary gain for Layering.

Powerleveler intend to exploit layering in a number of ways.

  1. kill rare elites on multiple layers before having to wait for respawn. The tidal charm dropped in Arathi is a big concern here. It gives every class an extra pvp stun.
  2. loot the gurubashi arena chest multiple times per spawn. Streamers have already exploited this.
  3. farm mining nodes and herbalism plants at the high level zones. Getting lots of purple lotus and crashing the economy.
  4. Farming groups of mobs with dou AoE mages.

Luckily there are easy fixes to most of this, like a cool down on gathering after layer switching, or being unable to loot rare elites on a new layer after having got credit on another layer.

I thought about that. If you have all the contested zones on the same layer, there are only a few zone crossing where this is an issue. For those, once you cross from a high-level contested zone to a lower zone, you stay in the same layer.

Essentially there is one layer for each side of the map, and you spin up layers in the lower level zones to deal with the initial rush.

I would love to see any blizzard comment on how they think layering is working and/or how they are going to make it work and/or when it will be removed. Officially
