No tuning is going to happen. They didn't entirely shut the door to class balancing a year after launch, but that's probably gonna be left to stagnate as well.

It's too bad. New guys excited about rolling certain fantasises are going to get the door slammed hard on them and they probably won't know why until it's way too late.
They said they were not messing with the 1.12 database unless absolutely needed so that is a pretty good indication that they will not be doing any tuning unless some line of code is causing the data to process in a way that alters it's end result from what it was in 1.12.
yea man raid tuning is super messed up because you cant really raid crossroads with sharding
Doesn't seem like it.

We were never going to get the real Vanilla experience back ( the conglomeration of 1.1 - 1.12), but this steam roll in a 1.12 state, is at the opposite end of the spectrum.
Just invite more hybrid DPS to your raids if you're worried about raid bosses being too easy and going down too fast. Quick and easy pseudo raid tuning.

haha. that's like flying. "if you don't like flying so much, no one is going to force you to do it. why do you care?"

There is still at least 6mo to go and hopefully a testing phase will reveal some issues that may require different version of the database for each phase...

We have to keep our expectations reasonable though. the progressive 1.1-1.12 patch cycle was always a super long shot and the least achievable (therefor least reasonable) desire that was expressed by those of us who are not trolls.

We'll still have the threat generation/shield slam issues even if we handicap ourselves on purpose : X

Oh yeah. I never really wanted progression anyway. Ideally, I want the experience to be the same for those that start playing 3 years down the road as the fans that start day 1.

The problem with progression is that it's only Vanilla like for a set timeline. Then it goes back to face roll easy mode.

The only way we can do a re-tune that has infinite longevity is to re-tune the instances to some degree in a static way (or dynamic way but that's more work). If everything is out on release, then the re-tune is easy. If it's not then they'll need to do a progressive re-tune.

That leads to even worse trivialization of earlier content than a time gated 1.12 content release. Also progression being slowed by a time gate keeps economy healthier longer since those trying to be the first to beat new content when it (and those trying to catch up) releases will keep raiding and the repair bills and respecs keep rolling (the things that remove gold from the game).

Agreed. That's why I'm an advocate of server merges then using that reclaimed server space to launch fresh realms periodically.

No you cannot get infinite longevity without constant retuning of the math, the mechanical execution, the patterns, and constantly changing the loot tables with something more that the players feel motivated to get. Eventually everyone in your raid will have all BiS, know every fight well enough to do it in their sleep, etc causing everything to be WotLK DK easy. The other option for very long term longevity is well to move to the next expansion. I don't think infinite longevity is the goal here just a healthy server over a decent long term run (about 2 years).
