Being alive and choosing to be a spokes person when no one asks you to be is apparently a terrible sin.
I have no idea why. For its level, Mark of Kern is a great ring.
He had an opinion on some stuff.

That's all it takes now.

No idea, these people should be grateful of Mark, he's the guy that got the ball rolling at Blizzard HQ by both meeting up with them to give Blizzard real boots on the ground perspective that they just often do not have.

Its that lack of perspective that presently plagues their current day games. It's not as if they're bad at code or horrible in development; they just lack the kind of vision that they once had, and that's where the problem lies for Blizzard, many of the devs are great people, but unfortunately live inside an echo chamber that pollutes the real vision that they occasionally have by injecting "Blizz" into the game when it does not really need or should have such a thing.

Blizzard, if you guys want to make truly awesome games again you need to stop streamlining things and go back to your roots on building a game out of passion instead of building games purely for the $$$$$$. I promise that if you build awesome games again the $$$$$$$ will follow; look at the original World of WarCraft.

You guys build the original World of WarCraft as a place that YOU would like to play, not as a way to make bigtime $$$$$$, but because you individually enjoyed the genera of game play.

That's where the problem lies now; its become a paycheck.

It will never happen. The old Blizzard is gone. They got fully assimilated into Activision..money first.
No CEO and their CFO is an Activision suit.

Man I don't know, they're still on paper a joint merger not a hostile takeover; so there is that.
There was some drama involving that youtuber Tradechat. Apparently he harassed her on twitter and sent a "hate mob" because she made a video saying she wasn't excited about classic...I don't know all the details.

Based on the press interview, they may just not want the same games any more. “A lot of us have switched from desktop and play mostly mobile” tells me that we might be off on the money grubbing accusations, and that it’s worse for US than we thought. The pc devs don’t play pc anymore.

Brack is not the CEO..did you not notice that ?
The CFO being an Activision guy is not good news, not at all.

Many of us predicted this way back. Because that is what happens to all companies when they get swallowed up by a bigger guy.

What is happening with Blizzard and Activision is the very same thing that happened with Alienware and Dell.

Sounds like the PC dev's should step aside and start developing mobile games and hand the position of PC developer over to people who genuinely love PC gaming; there are an absolute mountain of us who still PC game and enjoy it because its far more enjoyable (to us) than mobile games.

Speaking of mobile games, if I wanted to play those I would play tetris; not the trash they make now.

I see a lot of people say he's a parasite and stuff like that. the couple interviews i saw with him he seemed pretty normal. what did he do that made everyone hate him?

I think he let it slip that he actually doesn't think The Orange Man is literally Hitler. So now people think that Kern is Literally Hitler.

In reality he's just a game developer partly responsible for some pretty cool games.

Hmm, could be a takeover and if that's the situation then a new video game developer will unavoidably take market share because these sorts of things never work out the way they're intended. They will unavoidably flop due to far too much creative license being taken away, and too much overlord corporate bureaucracy being injected to ever build a real quality product again.

Blizzard: "We have many of our best developers now working on new mobile titles ...."

They're one step ahead of you! I don't think they're doing that thing where they hand over the title of PC game developer to people that enjoy PC gaming though.

Is this what people are upset about? Who actually gives a flying crap about some stupid youtuber guy that's more than likely an entitled idiot.

Mark's a really awesome guy, he's grown a lot since his time at blizzard and even while at Blizzard did a fantastic job in getting things done.
The Firefall debacle and his handling of Red 5 Studios in general.

The impression I get is that he's a fine designer as long as he's not in charge, and he's a fine guy as long as he can keep his mouth shut.

That's the problem..

There is nothing wrong with making mobile games for people who love that platform, but there is a huge problem when you have a massive player base who loves a classic platform for gaming and you stop supporting it because you're dev's are more interested in mobile gaming.

Long story short, higher some new dev's to fill that market void because you're loosing $$$$$$$$

To be fair in the same interview I snipped that from, they did say they're not forgetting their PC audience. Have many projects in the works etc.

But...it's still not a good look that your best talent is peeled away from projects aimed at your core audience. New developers might make some damn good stuff...but they're still gonna be the B team unless they're really picky about who they sign on. So...I remain unconvinced that we didn't just effectively become second class citizens because someone at Blizzard caught a whiff of Yuan from the Eastern mobile gaming market.

Very very interesting for sure.. The problem with making great games is the amount of creative license the designers and developers have to build the game they truly want to play. With out that creative license they're more or less hamstrung trying to build within the boundaries of a contemporary model rather than building something that can truly be awesome. That's why World of WarCraft was so damn good in the first place, but it appears they're far too married to a template now days.
