Right now there are 3 conflicting paths of content. The retail version, Legion Remix, and the Anniversary content. All major content, 2 out of 3 are very limited time only.
I didn’t realize that there was anything to the Anniversay content until over a week later, and I had been seriously misled by Youtube channels. It is major content, and it is another limited time event. This is supposedly left over from last year and is reliant on timewalking badges which have been so drastically curtailed that there is no reasonable way to achieve them in the number required to obtain both the mounts and all of the T2 sets even if I chain as healer+ tank, and do the weekly on all of my numerous alts. It isn’t remotely close to reasonable.
Legion remix. This is another major piece of content that has a severe expiration date for what it is, and there is little explanation in game or honestly even on youtube. I have completed all of the college classes that I am going to do for this. I guarantee you that most people know about a fraction of the content there, what is permanently going away, what is still in the old content, etc. Guarantee it.
Retail. Everything flies in the face of retail instead of working with it. I can’t do any of the other two paths of content and continue to do retail. So effectively the retail version of this game has concluded.
I know it has been a while since last I played this game, but I never saw the game punch itself in the face before like this. The lack of information or straight up misinformation is fatal to this game. In the anniversary BGs and stuff I saw other people, that is to say a lot more than one person mkay, comment that they didn’t even know about the Anniversary until the day before yesterday. It’s because we are in content silos.
As a long time player who is used to the traditional content droughts, this does feel like a lot going on at such a normally quiet time of the expansion cycle.
It’s been like this since April though. I have been in a sprint since joining and am now thoroughly overwhelmed. The Anniversary content makes me very angry though. It is impossible to get the core items no matter how much you twist and bend. Everything fights with each other for exclusivity. These things should have been combined in someway.
It does feel very overwhelming these days. I always appreciated the breathing room. It meant we had time to relax, wind down, and get excited for the new content. Maybe even play other games in between! Such blasphemy!
You are right. I whine, but it’s very self inflicted. I’m pressed to try and do as many delves as I can because I decided I want all the mythic tier set appearances this season. Even on classes I rarely play or don’t much like the tier sets for! It’s silly really. But here I am.
This is precisely what they don’t want you to do. Oblivion remastered, Baldurs Gate 3, Elden Ring all require a lot of time to play through and you may cancel your subscription. If they continue overwhelming me with conflicting content* I might just leave but I do not like temporary content, least of all when it fights against itself and splits the player base even more.
If you must play only 1 game level, could be a problem.
If you like buffets in gaming…well its like this.
I’ve been burning out on mop levels since it has the JJ bonus. I can take a few days off to get rested to push past 88 to 90 in final one. I cannot lie…I will scream if I see brewery or monastery several times each again. So I step away a day or 3.
It’s a new month, new adventure bar reward….I will remix a new char 2-3 days this week.
which sets up for anniv next week to work on the rogue there. mixed with 90 tweaking in mop.
Play what I need or want till done, switch em out. And throw in stalker 2 play since it got updates to break form genre a bit lol.
I almost did leave this year. I spent some time in hospital and then had a few months where I didn’t have access to my pc. My account briefly lapsed and I really thought about just letting it go. It had been 20 years of playing. It would have been a fitting time to go. But alas, they pulled me back in. A few days after it lapsed I renewed it and bought a gaming laptop.
The Anniversary ends this week. I wasn’t here last year to buffer the down payment for any of the core targets for that content, and their own content creators seriously misled about this.
I have admittedly have jaded retail vet mindset from legion statt. there wasn’t much here. Like you mentioned BG’s. Anything since 15 KAV has been garbage imo.
15 th Kav brought back “eternal” AV. fun times. I’ve not seen Ivus or the other dude since then. even in classic AV’s. all wows speed run this place sadly. 2 hour AV’s….have their allure.
Yeah I don’t even know about the other thing that I think you are referencing and I hope it isn’t to important. I am talking about the retail 21st Anniversary content. Technically runs 3 weeks but there is only the 1 week that you have to earn any of the core rewards because it uses timewarped badges from timewalking dungeons.
Edit: People are running through AV because there isn’t any time to do anything at a normal or enjoyable speed right now.
Wow has always been a game with many things for many different people. Go back and play Vanilla, you can level through quests and each class has a class hall with different class quests. You can do questing, you can do group content, you can do gathering & professions or you can do role play. And that’s just vanilla.
WoW has always been a big world with many different choices on how to play the game. Now there are more choices. Pick one (or more) and play.
I played Vanilla, I’m an OG raider from the real classic, and the game had a core thread going forward in progression. Holidays and special events were woven into the core game without compelling you to go into a content silo. Professions assisted you with the core game.
Legion Remix and Anniversary are content silos that pull apart the player base from each other and people don’t really know what is going on elsewhere as I observed. They’ve also made the regular holidays off-site and in silo as well.
Classic through Draenor were nothing at all like this, even with Garrisons. We are all playing 5 entirely different games right now, interacting with entirely different groups of people, with entirely different reward systems and means of progression. A lot of it is extremely transitory, which is also new, and applies a lot of stress to the players in each silo.
I don’t understand what you mean about being pulled anywhere. No one is forcing me into content I don’t want to play. It’s a choice. Pick what you want and play that.
Legion Remix pulls players into a content silo called Legion Remix. In that game you level up, you have an entirely different means of progression, rewards system, and overall content to level up in. You even play alongside the opposite faction.
You can’t participate in the ‘retail’ game, like the holidays or anniversary, or main progression of the retail game. They are two entirely different games. You can’t realistically play both of those games because of the time required to progress in any meaningful way in either one really precludes the other. The characters can’t go between. So you are going to be in one or the other.
The Anniversary event has all of the problems that the holidays did in Retail in addition to the rewards being disproportionately substantial to be waved away. It is way out of path of anywhere you might naturally go otherwise in Retail, the reward system and content for it requires a massive timesink and grind of exclusive content and currency. You’re not going to be doing this content and any other part of the game.
These things are exclusive of each other. Two of them are timelocked, and the Anniversary content is listed for 3 weeks but in actuality there is only 1 week that you can earn currency for any of the core rewards because it is ‘timewarped badges’.
Yes I understand there are choices to be made. In fact I leveled a couple paladins in Legion Remix but that was only because I wanted to. No one forced me to do it. I’ve pretty much ignored the Anniversary. No one is forcing me to do that.
You hear the same thing about FOMO and the Trading Post and Cash Shop. People talk about how they are traumatized because they can’t buy everything. You don’t have to buy everything, just pick out what you want and be responsible with your spending.
Do you really think you are required to play all the content and/or buy everything they have on sale? If so why? What are you afraid will happen to you if you just pass something by and decide not to play/buy it?
