A lot of us, myself included, come to this forum to vent. It’s no secret that we all care about the game and we should! We chose to sacrifice a lot to play and use it as a tool to unwind, escape, or just flat out enjoy.
I can’t speak for everyone here but my opinions are at times selfish based and objective based depending on the topic.
A lot of us come across as hard to please, which is the exact reason we never (or rarely) see blue responses to anything on the forums.
I urge you as a community leader / dev/ or whomever else reads the constant rants to seek feedback in these posts and read between the lines and consider what can be improved.
Normally the Sunday trolls, the forum derailers, the sky is calling people, the drunk off nostalgia individuals, the include me crowd, the solo advocates, the sweaties, the collectors, the ride or die faction filled pride group, and the rest of the inbetweens all have one thing in common, we love(d) this game.
But we are struggling to have our voice heard. When no communication happens from the top down you foster the sentiment that you don’t care. While we know that to not be true, it’s what your actions are showing us.
Instead of reading these rants and ignoring them cause it’s wasted man power, I urge you to consider objectively the reason for the rant and take all criticism as valuable insight into the players minds as a valuable tool for growth and be more present here and elsewhere.
I personally would love to hear more from the blues.
Here is, in its entirety, your constructive criticism regarding The Hunt event:
It was cool for a few days now it’s lame
In its entirety, your feedback on KT voice acting:
The new KT voice is terrible.
In it’s entirety, your feedback on the current loot system:
Trash system.
I’m not saying you don’t make constructive criticism in some threads. But I am curious as to why you’ve decided to make this thread when you’re one of many people on these forums that throw out one-liner negative statements and vanish, which makes it harder for the Blues you’re wanting more of, to find actual information worth reading.
With Metzen coming back I’m cautiously optimistic about getting more communication. He was always relatively active on the forums before. IN THE BEFORE TIMES
I’d like to see more constructive feedback yeah. Most posts are nothing more than rants that seem more like someone needed to blow off steam about something else entirely and focused on some very tiny thing such as the color of a characters eyes. Or its something like “my class is bad. THANKS FRUIT COSBY BOWLS!”
Have you ever seen what happens when there is a blue post? Everyone hounds them with their " feedback " even if it’s way off the topic they post on. I don’t blame them for just siting back and reading between the lines of our BS and stay quiet.
I prefer those threads when things get talked about logically (with only a few spiteful idjits!) Instead of it starting that way and staying that way: attack the OP personally!
You’re right, no matter what point of view we’re coming from we all love OUR game, WoW.
I will just paste this from another thread as I see this one will be the same…
Oh look, another OP that makes a thread then tucks tail and run. There should be a rule if you don’t respond to comments within like 10-15 minutes the thread gets auto deleted.
I would rather that this illustrious group of posters prove they deserve blues – at least to an extent that there becomes some indication that blue is even willing to participate at all. As pointed out earlier, before the flood, blues were here. But they were chased out.
They were chased out when this body of people continued to angle, in bad faith, with selfish opinions for their own gameplay, leaving their fellow players by the wayside - plus just plain insulting the community reps.
Seriously, consider our best topics? Should we have player housing? Why waste Blue time by asking them to discern anything from the dialogue here? It’s honest disagreement, yet there is nothing to learn and it gets heated. How about new inflammatory topics like is Dragonriding better than flying? Again, this group is not capable of holding two opinions in their head at a time and the people argue against their own.
So, I do not agree with OP. I think we will waste their time for no benefit to us, or to them - until we learn to stop eating our own. More participation will let people think they are directly going to have their views taken by blue, and actually invites further conflict through an appeal to authority on topics that fit outside the common norms (e.g. M+, raids, pvp).
We all would, but considering how everything they post gets torn apart, the messenger gets killed, and things said in jest get quoted like the gospel for 10+ years, I understand why they don’t want to talk to us.
Constructive criticism is okay but the forums take it a bit far to many times or get down right rude because of opinion disagreement.
At times the only even offer a solution just yells that something needs fixed and when its clear someone doesn’t understand whats broke and comments they don’t clear the topic up but just attack the person for not knowing whats actually going on.
Im at least three of these… anyways I don’t think they have the staff for what you are asking for, not anymore. Are there any official Community managers anymore? If so I haven’t heard from them in any of the threads i’ve been reading.
Never claimed I’m not harsh. And there is a big difference between giving constructive criticism and taking something as constructive criticism.
Never said I wasn’t. Did I? Didn’t think so.
You can look at my post history on my one toon all you want. I never claim to be a saint that sees the glass half full all the time. But your one dimensional trolling attitude is missing the point. That the devs need more of a presence and we aren’t harsh with our words to hurt the devs feelings. We are giving our 2 cents to make the game better. Sometimes it’s in a through constructive way, sometimes it’s just to say it sucks and they should figure out why.
Communicating with players is what wastes resources. Having an candid open dialogue with players is useless. You tell them your vision or your goals for a design and they come up with a million and one reasons why you’re wrong. They’re just going to disagree with it, because they’re players.
Players can be trusted to always want the best rewards by the easiest and or quickest means possible, especially when it comes to a live service game. A designers job is to create a fun and healthy experience and then wrap that experience around a reward hierarchy that’s going to last until the next scheduled patch. That’s inevitably at odds with what players want.
It’s becoming the industry norm to communicate more, but there is zero evidence that it’s good for players, community pros, and or designers. And, there is mounting evidence that it’s actually bad for game design. Like the influencer problem.
I can assure you that developers get all the feedback they can possibly handle. There are a ton of social media platforms and they’re reading it all, all the time. They’re also getting feedback from their peers etc. It’s understandable that you don’t feel heard, but I wouldn’t let that stop you from giving feedback. It is read.
