Maybe you are right, I don’t do yolo’s. But to make that statement for alliance in general is a bad example because decent players don’t tend to play yolos from my experience.
What data would you need?
I’m not sure exactly how accurate arenamate is, but filtering 1600+ rating on the RBG ladder shows that 65% of the ladder is horde.
arenamate.net - Your WoW SL S1 PvP Hub
At 2700 It has the alliance at 53%, (with 153 samples which is pretty much the samples you’ve shown), but if I go down 100 points to 2600 the distribution becomes 60% Horde.
I’m not saying it’s impossible to do well as Alliance, but if I were to decide to play my retail character again at my modest 1700ish rating, I’d have 3326 potential Horde teammates vs 1667 Alliance ones.
That doesn’t mean horde are dominating the ladder. That would be expected if there is a faction imbalance (which there is).
The whole point of my sample of the top 150~ was that it should be the reverse if it was even as horde have more numbers.
What would really need to know is what is the faction imbalance. That way we can compare it to the ladder to determine if it’s even. Say actual factional imbalance is 65% horde to 35% alliance, and ladder reflects that for 1600+ like you said then I would consider that pretty even (not horde dominated).
Are you kinda understanding what I’m getting at?
I think this won the internet
Yeah, knowing the population ratio would be nice.
I think they stated overall population is roughly 50/50. But that’s of the entire playerbase and not limited just to pvp.
I’m just not sure how there being a faction imbalance isn’t just more proof of one faction dominating the ladder.
I don’t think it’s 50-50 on the servers I am linked on . More close to 45-55 I think atleast in the open world. In instanced content ( both PvE and PvP ) jsut looking at the LFG lists , the horde numbers are 3-4 times as large .
Hit me with the knowledge, is SV/Feral/Frost mage viable up there? also is the best bet to climb is yolos and networking
Mmm, I’m not sure about surv, I’ve seen mostly MM and now more BMs. I would think jungle would be viable, but would need to be really good. Frost mage possibly WMD. It’s hard because fire mage is pretty much the go to, along with arms warriors, ww monks.
IDK just how good like thug or cupid are doing for hunters. I need Dilly’s hunter input.
Empirical, I like that word, dunno what it means but sounds cool.
Alliance dominates the RBG ladder so this is kinda weird.
had me dead lmao

This thread baffles me. How are you not going against alliance premades that are all decked out in 220s when most of your teammates are barely 190 with zero premades in the group?
Horde winning is really rare for me.
Just glancing over your win/losses and rating gains/losses leads me to believe your teammates average CR is all over the place. I know it’s lower rating, but it might be helpful to try to get teammates around your CR.
This season on my mage I kind of indiscriminately queued with whatever I could get, but I did my best to make sure the player’s CRs were close. I got to 1600 with mostly bad comp/no voice/yolo groups right at a 50% or so winrate. My point though is that I believe if you’re more strict about your groups CR wise, you can probably get 1600 with a negative win/loss ratio.
Just to add to this - I yolo’d my way to 1400 in RBGs, then picked up voice only groups at my current CR or higher. It takes longer, and is more of commitment, but it was way less frustrating to push with.
1400-1800 took me as long as 0-1400 did.
Unlike random battle grounds, “rated” battle grounds, you can go against either the same or opposite faction. Mostly, Horde goes against Horde because of the imbalance. In fact, I switched to Horde because of a long string of blowout loses. As soon as I make it to 1400 (maybe 1600), I’m going back to Alliance.
I see, thank you. I guess I’ll have to try to break into rated battlegrounds somehow. Can I ask what people mean by ‘yolo’? I thought you needed a full premade group to get into RBGs.
I’m just a casual Pvper.
YOLO: You only live once. What this means in the parlance of Rated Battlegrounds ("RBG), is you go to the PvP section, and hit the “Premade” tab. You can either start a team, or join a team. Most people join. So, you’ll select join a team, and you’ll see a list of advertisements for people seeking players. You can apply by hitting on. The considerations are your CR (current rating), your versatility percentage, I-lvl and class. Usually they want over 20%.
YOLOs means that this is not a group of people that know each other, or are members of the same guild. They are people who are accepted by the team leader.
Thanks for the explanation
