Constant latency issues in classic wow ONLY

So I don’t have any latency issues on any other game. I can stream video, play other MMOs/shooters fine. Speedtests yield up/down speeds 50Mbps and ping under 10.

Here is my tracer:

Line 1 seems… ominous. The solution so far has been to regularly restart my PC/router and that usually fixes it for a bit. This is getting REALLY old though. I did this test while I was experiencing high latency.

I also did a WinMTR and was not experiencing the latency due to my router restarting right before. (I got tired of not being able to quest due to latency). Here is the results from that:

I am so confused why this is so random, why it only seems to happen with WoW, and how I can get a 50Mbps speed on a speedtest (higher than any place I’ve lived before, where I played WoW with no latency), but still lag. I leveled two alts to 120 on BFA and had no lag, but on my priest on classic? It’s gamebreaking at times.

Note: I have tried the Leatrix latency fix, doesn’t seem to do a thing for me.

On the tracert the modem or router had significant lag spikes.

Yeah, I agree with the last response, but sometimes modems ignore some ping traffic. Since that long delay didn’t show up on the second hop, I’m not sure it’s actual lag/ping delay.

I would be concerned about that first hop, especially if restarting the rotuer\modem resolves the issue temporarily. The WinMTR looks fine however this is expected if you weren’t having issues when running the test. I’d recommend running that again while you’re experiencing latency in-game to see if get similar results to the traceroute.

Based on the info we have so far though, this does sound like a local issue. If you’re on wireless I’d look into a wired connection. If the router\modem is provided by the ISP, it may be worth contacting them to get those replaced.

I can’t swap to a wired connection due to where my ethernet cord is placed (my ISP/landlord have it wired into my basement which is, as far as I know, the only place I can hook up my router). The only way I can think of to get a wired connection would be to run a very long ethernet cord up a flight of stairs, through my kitchen, and into my game room… or hook up my PC in my laundry room. This is obviously unideal in either situation lol.

It doesn’t use a modem, just a router/modem combo that plugs into that one ethernet cord.

I have a $60 router from Walmart, but it’s close to two years old. Should I try upgrading it just to see if it resolves things?

I ran another WinMTR now as I’m having some issues:

Seems like a 10-15% loss rate across the board.

Sorry for the long delay, had some personal stuff the past week or so… but I’d really like to try and get this fixed tonight as I have the next few days off. Is it worth it to just drop the $ on a router, or is there a good chance that won’t even fix it?

You’ve got 4 sec of latency from the first hop, so the problem starts there.

You’re wireless, but which band? Can you try changing bands or channels? Have you updated router firmware and wireless drivers?
