Constant "game data being downloaded"

My World of Warcraft game has shown a green circle indicating “game data being downloaded” for at least the last two weeks, despite the battle.net client claiming that the game is fully downloaded. Sometimes it disappears for a few seconds or a few minutes as if done, but then comes back very soon afterwards. I haven’t been able to determine any pattern as to when it does and doesn’t appear.

I’m not sure about the exact date when this started, but it has been happening since before May 12, since that is when I performed a “Scan and Repair” of WoW through the battle.net client in order to try to fix the issue. The issue still happened after the repair, and was happening for several days prior to that, which is what prompted me to perform the scan and repair process.

do you have your settings in bnet launcher to auto download game data for say things like upcoming ptr/beta build patches? if so its possible your end client is downloading 9.1 data though i havent personally noticed any background downloading on own launcher or game client either so if its not that then im not sure.

I did have that setting enabled, but turning it off hasn’t changed anything. Still having the same problem.

Hey there,

You might try deleting the indices folder located in
World of Warcraft\Data\indices
then run the Scan & Repair again so it will be recreated.

If that doesn’t help then a full uninstall and reinstall of the game should fix it. Downloading in-game constantly like this usually indicates the data files are corrupt in some way so it’s having to constantly stream the data from the server instead of reading it from the disk.
