Since about November 2023 I started getting disconnected from WoW constantly during raid (and outside of raid). At the time I was in a very competitive guild and ultimately it ended in me quitting since they couldn’t have me disconnect on every other heroic lich king pull. Nothing changed as far as I’m aware with addons or weak auras and I raided successfully from molten core up until that point without any issues. This happens on any character I play on whether it be Cata classic or WoW SoD.
Steps I’ve taken:
- Reinstalled WoW completely
- Purchased a new router
- Upgraded my internet from 256MB to 1 GiG fiber connection
- Followed all the steps in the Blizzard tech support page for disconnects
- Tried multiple machines both connected to WiFi and wired to the router
- Contacted my ISP but of course they say that they don’t see anything wrong on their end
- Disabled my firewall
This happens on my laptop (wireless) and my desktop (wired)
The disconnects are random but seem to happen more during raid but I will have 4-5 in a row just out fishing also. Sometimes I’ll get a full disconnect with the error WOW51900319 and other times everyone will freeze in place, I can’t cast anything but my chat is still working fine. This requires me to manually kill the app and restart it in order to reconnect.
Starting yesterday I downloaded wireshark to start taking captures while it’s happening but I’m not really sure what I’m looking at. I see a bunch of Authentication Reconnect Challenge packets that claim they are malformed according to wireshark:
[Expert Info (Error/Malformed): Malformed Packet (Exception occurred)]
[Malformed Packet (Exception occurred)]
[Severity level: Error]
[Group: Malformed]
I did find on wowdev wiki that these should be followed by an Authentication Reconnect Proof packet and I do see some of these but not always.
There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason for these disconnects as they are so random but make raiding impossible for me so any help would be greatly appreciated.
