+1 here, log in, start doing a WQ or killing something, then the disconnect happens.
Escape button → Log Out does nothing
Escape button → Exit Game does nothing (LOL, can’t even exit voluntarily…)
can’t interact, attack, mount up, nothing.
Alt-Tab → Force close the game. Restart game, log back in, then can’t login as that character. Get the error “A character with that name already exists…”
Fun times…

Adding my own experience. I played all day today but this started happening around 4pm PST. Two of my characters were getting this weird disconnect. Except, I’m able to talk in trade chat and others are responding. It’s just everything else that doesn’t work. Can’t mount. Can’t cast anything. Can’t logout. Exiting the client makes so the “character already exists” message appears.
It happened when I got my herbalism treatise from the mail after work order and using the item. The item disappeared but I didn’t get a point. I logged on it hours later and seemed to be able to do stuff but the point was still gone. I made another one with my scribe alt and the same thing happened. Using the treatise locked my character up.
The same happened on the other old while learning a treatise.
Other characters didn’t have that problem around the time but I didn’t keep playing so not sure if it was going to happen on other characters.
I’ve submitted a bug ingame but posting here too for visibility.
I am also having this isssue and it seems to be triggered by using the Slate from mining and from the Deepgrove Petal from herbing. The bad thing is that the slate and petals are consumed but i am not getting the points for them
