What’s everyone’s thoughts on if the game was opened to console? I think it would be kind of cool having that much more of a player base, not to mention family/friends that dont have PC could get in on the action and play with their friends/families who specifically game on PC.
i mean… if we go Microsoft> Xbox> Keyboard and mouse required> base ui getting baseline updates to be on par with addons.
its getting real close to being a viable possibility imo
A novelty at best, like pretty much any Blizzard game that isn’t on PC.
Who doesn’t have a PC in this day and age? I mean it’s pretty much required given how much everything relies on a computer. ![]()
It won’t happen but, I don’t see why it can’t be ported and optimized for PS and xbox operating systems. I’d like to actually see it happen. Consoles are now able to use mouse and keyboard, so no problems there.
For all the games? ![]()
And you’re able to plug in any mouse and keyboard?
I played WoW with a Steam controller and the XBox Elite controller for over a year. It’s doable (was parsing ~80’s on heroic BFA raids) but there’s a lot of work that needs to be done, ground target abilities are a huge pain. So is inventory.
I don’t see this game going to console unless they reverse course and renew their effort to prune abilities or give us another targeting option.
Console works for ESO because the targeting can be reticle based and the bars are 10 abilities at a time.
I mean tbf, a lot of this can be worked to fit on a controller with very little sacrifice. Like The Sims 4 or Cities Skylines. You boot those games up on the console and their nearly identical in… well everything. It’s not a spinoff made for consoles only, it’s the full* PC experience on the console. ![]()
* = No mods and editing graphic options though.
Consoles have the power to run it, the question is controls. Does wows control scheme work on console? IMO, it does, but not well. You can pull it off on a controller, but it’s a disadvantage vs a mouse and keyboard.
You would be surprised.
The number of people I’ve encountered in the IT field that do not own a PC, let alone know how to use one, is staggering considering how digitized our society is now.
There are already ways to play wow with a controller, had a DK who raided with an Xbox controller just fine, was in our top 5 DPS in Castle Nathria.
I know tons of people that don’t own computers. It’s not cause of cost either they can afford them. They have consoles for gaming and anything else they do on their phone such as doing their taxes.
sure. but what if a healer in a raid? xbox controller can and does work fine for dps. i have seen videos of people doing it just fine. but healing? haven’t seen that. simple keyboard and mouse support, even if its not a requirement is enough for when the controller doesnt cut it.
…Well, surprised is a kind way of how i feel after hearing about this information.
I mean it’s nice to have, to do things that a console and or a phone won’t do.
Multi-montiored setup so i can multitask efficiently, swap hardware parts or edit software configuration with ease, video editing or writing documents, coding, photoshop, and so on.
Even for gaming related uses, it allows me to use more then just the xbox or ps controllers like a guitar hero controller for one, create and mod games, and even run or install them on a virtual OS, so i can transfer them over to the newer one. (like i had to do with Mall Tycoon) And it was nice seeing Windows XP again, but in hacked 1080p. ![]()
Oooooooooooooooooof. ![]()
Like personally, i honestly dislike navigating though my phone for something other then watching a quick video or seeing the news, because of some odd magic trick (gesture) that i need to do to make it work how i want it to. It’s oversimplified to a point where it’s actually complicated on what i needed to do that i don’t think i would ever use it as a replacement or as much as a computer. Why does the phone on login screen has a secret gesture thing for QuickMemo?! ![]()
I’m not even kidding, QuickMemo+, literally drives me up to the wall whenever it appears when i don’t want it too. It wouldn’t be so bad if i can just disable it, but it doesn’t allow me. Not even on dev mode. Meanwhile i can disable the Windows Updates with it’s own tools even and it will work just fine. What the hell? ![]()
Personal rant over.
Especially outside of North American markets. Like in Japan there’s quite a number of people who don’t have a PC of any kind or just a light laptop not suitable for gaming because they use a smartphone, console, and/or tablet for everything personal, with computers being a work/school thing. This was true even before smartphones too, just substitute those for flipphones/keitai.
Not that WoW has much of a playerbase in Japan (it doesn’t), but just for the sake of examples.
Shouldn’t be a problem if they stick to the current gen of consoles, with the PS5 having 825GB and Xbox Series X having 1TB in base configs. The game weighs about 73GB currently.
I guess they could port it to PS4/Xbox One but I don’t think that’d make much sense with where those are in their lifecycles now.
Ehh… I mean not as much power as a PC inherently speaking, especially since were 2 years in the Xbox Series X and PS5’s lifecycle and their specs are low-med tiered at best these days. Even with the ray tracing.
Well that’s because it’s an inherit disadvantage from controllers; it’s slow to aim and has a set maximum speed and deadzone (or the fact it has a speed at all). Making looking, also in turn accuracy, worse. Hence why things like Auto-aim exists.
Yea gonna be honest, i’m not sure how that’s gonna work on controllers. I would imagine that would be ditched in favor for line of sight targeting possibly.
autoaim and every other cheap cheese too? how do you cast grund effects on console? how do you tab target?
PS5/XBX are roughly equiv to a Ryzen 3700X and 5700XT with 16GB of RAM and a PCI-E 4.0 SSD, which is decent and considerably better than the PCs a lot of people (even serious raiders and the like) run WoW on. Of course they won’t compare so favorably in a few years, but compared to previous generations of consoles this generation is probably the most closely matched to same-era enthusiast PC power ever. PS4 for example was pretty weak compared to PCs even when brand new.
I think the approximate PC equivalent of the Xbox X GPU is a 3060, which is still pretty good. Wow runs on an Apple M1 chip, which is currently used on for an iPad.
I’m going to say that an even an xbox s is more powerful than that.
Problem is that WoW was never designed to work that way. ESO can be played on a console but it was set up from early on to be playable that way. Im not a tech so I dont know the limitations but I suspect it would be difficult.
