Title. I have almost all my character on Horde and all of my friends are on Horde, but I am really wanting to lean into the Void Elf Shadow Priest Voidweaver thing in TWW and am considering changing my Nightborne Priest to Alliance.
My question is with my friends on Horde, how would that impact us playing together? What are all the limitations in place currently and for TWW?
I’ve tried to look it up but I am having a hard time finding a full, clear list of what the limits are. Any and all help appreciated. Thanks!
The only limitation I am aware of is that you cannot cross-faction queue (so no LFR, no battlegrounds, no dungeon finder, etc.).
But I think that’s going to be fixed in TWW.
No other limitations afaik
Somethings won’t be possible. I’m not aware of a comprehensive list, just personal experience.
- Parties with a mix of factions cannot use the random group finder.
- Loot from a dungeon can be traded cross faction, but ONLY if you’re still in the dungeon / raid. Might be able to enter a dungeon and trade the item, again
We learned that second point last week. Hordie won heroic Sarkareth’s omni token, but when she got to the vendor she realized she didn’t need it anymore due to the season’s mark of mastery token from clearing heroic Aberrus. She tried trading it to the second place roll, but was unable to as they were cross faction and no longer in the raid.
I know they flew over to Ruby Life Pools to see if it could be traded, but not sure if it worked. I didn’t stick around.
LOL why on EARTH would you reroll Alliance?
Just start a new toon there and you will realize that you saved money by not faction swapping.
if all the current races are in mop remix just lvl a alliance char there to your liking since its going to be accelerated lvling
Currently you can join a Horde guild on an Alliance character (and visa versa) if you get invited by someone you have as a bnet friend. You have access to the guild bank, you can join groups to do dungeons by walking through the entrance, but not via a LFG queue.
That is true but you can also trade goods and gold with a character belonging to a bnet friend. (I’ve done it a number of times.)
With regard to TWW, to quote wowhead:
Blizz: Cross-realm guilds are coming in War Within. Cross-realm Mythic restriction goes away too.
Cross faction rading was allowed in Shadowlands Patch 9.2.5 and then Cross-Faction guilds became a feature in Dragonflight Patch 10.1. This next step will continue to break down barriers for players allowing them to create cross-server communities to raid with that aren’t content-restricted allowing for greater flexibility when choosing servers, factions, and guilds.
I think I got that all right. Im sure someone will tell me if not.
Another thing is that if you are of the opposite faction, even if you are partied together, you cannot heal or buff each other and you also cannot ride the same multi-person mount unless you are inside an instance.

I would also suggest you not waste your money to change a toon.
Just roll up a void elf in Pandemonium next week and level it up.
