Consider waiting til mid 2022 for gpu upgrade?

So I sold my 5700 xt red devil and have been without a gpu for some time. With the market for mining looking like it’s not worth it anymore its starting to give me hope ontop of that we got Intel or shall we say team blue? Coming in with new desktop gpus and AMD doesn’t seem far from the 7000 series. Nvidia obviously is saying the rest of 2022 is going to be bad. So if I wanted a card for msrp should I stress trying to get one? I do have the funds for a 6800 xt, as my only legit option is amd as I’m canadian and without a vehicle atm. My other option is just to bank my money til tax season in april/may and see what I can get then. What do you think? Wait and see if the gpu market normalizes around april/may also potentially some better gpus around then? Or try and hit up amd every Thursday (could probably get Thursdays off if I asked work) and get one asap. I will also note that I’m able to share a computer atm not the most ideal situation but it’s not too bad.

I wanted to get a GPU but instead for now, since I live in even more “tech” expensive area then you, decided to hold off until things simmer down and just got myself an AMD APU which was cheap and works decent in a pinch for now.

Not sure if this is what you wanted to hear/know as it all depends on what you want to accomplish but hey if I can help I will do it

It’s impossible to say if/when the market will get better. Even without mining there’s trouble getting electronics right now. Just look at the PS5/Series X shortage, they’ve been out over a year now and they’re still sold out. Same thing with the car industry they can’t get enough chips so the car lots continue to sit empty. Add in all the issues covid caused and the demand of these products due to people staying home.

I don’t know if Canada’s different but here in the US I’d recommend using all the app’s that alert you when products come in stock. Hotstock and the nowinstock.net tracker through telegram on my phone helped me score multiple hard to get items. I’ve managed to score 2 series X and 2 PS5’s through the app as well as DDR5 ram for my PC.

This is a long winded way of saying it’s going to take you awhile to get one so you should start now.

Pretty much what they said. Nobody knows if the market will be normal in 2022 due to the scalping/covid issues going on.

The only way I found a GPU was by camping on a discord that auto announced restocking of inventory and basically had to wait 2 weeks to find one that I wanted. You’re still not going to get prices at MSRP though.

Thanks for the replies, guess I’ll start hunting now then.

You can also sign up for the EVGA program and pick couple cards you want then it alerts you when it’s available and gives you 24hrs to order it.

AMD was also selling direct but dunno if they still are and even then like most places they are sold out in seconds.

Bestbuy also has some in stock in store if you are lucky since the website doesn’t show stock.

Up here bestbuy recently announced a drop of RTX cards and ppl were camping/chairs their local bestbuy. I heard some stores had limited quantities, like just 20 cards in but there was like 50 ppl in line and they didn’t tell them till opening.
