Hey, I know a great way you could go about building a community of like minded people who share the same interests and goals as you without being limited to a realm or faction.
nevermind

Agreed and truthfully a good half of the topics posted to the forum also fall in the “ok so don’t use it” or “ok so don’t play that way” etc. category.
I use minimal addons now because they are all convenience addons like Tom Tom and titan panel I’ve used for about a decade.
But I played with zero addons for a while also. To each their own and that’s all the OP should need to understand.
If you are willingly choosing to not use addons, you will never be more than a fraction of the player you should be and are just putting yourself at a massive disadvantage in the game.
It’s also borderline trolling if you are trying to run any real content. In m+ you can’t track any of your groups interrupts or CDs, both raiding and m+ you have no bigwigs or dbm for mechanics, no details to even gauge how well you are doing, etc.
You are basically an affix to any group you are in
There are several million people globally who play WoW, so I’m sure you’re not the only one, and I totally understand the desire to play with a group of like-minded individuals. However, having said that, I feel as though you’re likely in the minority.
For the longest time I was of your mindset and didn’t use any addons, mostly because I just had no use or need for them since I’m a hardcore über-casual who has mostly solo’d, and so many players seemed to have system issues from the sheer amount of addons they were using which would disappear when they turned their addons off.
I used to run instances with friends back in Wrath, and never had the need to number crunch or worry about ilvl, etc., so I really never felt the need for them.
Then when Cataclysm launched so completely over-tuned, most everyone I knew quit and I discovered playing solo was 99% drama & toxicity-free and far more enjoyable.
But because I was hunting rares, the first addon I downloaded was NPCScan, which was a big help. Now I use RareScanner.
When Battle Pets were introduced in MoP, the addon Rematch which allows you to save Battle Pet teams, along with Pet Breed IDs, gave collecting Battle Pets a more complete and enjoyable experience by bringing visibility of the detail that was already in the game.
Other addons I use are:
Tom Tom for location coordinates for finding NPCs, Quest Givers, Rare spawn points, Treasure locations, etc.
Handy Notes & TomCat’s Tours also for treasure hunting, Rare spawn points, Dragonriding glyph locations…
Pretty Reps which tracks all your reputations by character, so you can easily see which of your alts is closer to finishing any specific Rep. Absolutely brilliant addon.
World Quest Tracker which shows a far more detailed map of current WQs, along with ways to sort them into more specific groups depending on what you’re working on in the game.
Quest Completist tells you which quests you’ve done and which ones you haven’t.
I’ve no use or need for Discord, or any that are used in Raids & Dungeons
I wish you luck on your endeavor…
Blue? Pfft! Cerulean is the obvious choice.
No its specifically #0070DD (RGB 0, 112, 221)
Hmm… I’ve decided that I have an irrational dislike of this color and will nerf it.
Being a shaman you should be used to getting things you like nerfed.
This is all a joke.
Whoa whoa whoa.
You are calling shaman a joke?!?!
I’m just reading off this script Blizzard sent me.
You are, and you can use your preferred addonless with in game chat now, you can even utilize the community feature built in the game. For all I know there is already a community channel for addon & discord haters.
Please play the game the way you want, and let me do the same. Addons aren’t complicated, and they definitely don’t play the game for you.
Blizzard has used this method from the beginning because it saves them lots of money, that’s why it’s likely never going to change. It also offers choices for the players to install the enhancements they choose, not be “forced” to use something built into the game.
I thought you said it was a poll, not a rant. lol
Regardless, I’m a soloist, and I also don’t really use mods. I do use an auction helper and AMR to optimize gear, but that’s it.
I vote no. I’m not entirely sure what we’re voting on though. But the op might be one of those anti addon anti discord zealots so I’m obligated to disagree with them at least slightly.
Flagged for hate speech
Perhaps he meant pole? Though I’m not sure what we’re using the pole for.
There isn’t.
Any organized guild will use discord because it’s much more practical.
Example. I work a job that doesn’t have wet hours. On occasion I can work a 17 hour day. If not using discord I would not have anyway to relay to my guild officers that I would be late/absent from raid.
With discord I can open my phone and post a quick message in the attendance channel and directly message the RL letting him know the situation.
As far as addons go, I prefer a better quality of life.
Being able to see my CD timers/buff uptime’s in a more fluid way is a massive quality of life change.
I have a weakaura that tracks my barbed shot duration and one that shows my beast cleave duration so I can maximize my uptime of it without having to look up at the buff bars.
Festivus?
I really hate that in-game voice isn’t used.
I’ve seen one pug raid use it since it was implemented. And it was just because they were curious about it. Every single person who joined said “I’ve never used this before”, and this wasn’t even during the same expansion it was added in.
I get that Discord was already well-established before it got brought back in a serviceable manner, and people tend to stick to whatever they already know, but man, for the purposes of a one-off pug, there’s almost no difference between Discord and in-game Voice, yet people will still make you join a personal server on a 3rd party program for WoW.
