This spell is absolutely horrible, dropping it in giant packs does barely anything, 1000 hits and this spell did 100k damage. For being a ground placed non moving ability it really really sucks. IT NEEDS TO BE IMPROVED IN EVERY WAY!
I’ve always been fond of the idea that stepping in Conc applies a DoT to enemies.
For what spec? I can’t comment on prot but other then maybe a talent that gives it a small heal to replace a talent we rarely use it’s a very solid spell for holy.
Ret however, I hear it is incredibly weak for them. like you only want to use it whenever you have absolutely nothing else to cast or more then a certain number of mobs right?
This is true. Baseline Conc deals less damage than Crusader Strike. With multiple target you can work it in for CS, however it’s a very low priority ability.
Consecrate is possibly the worst ability in the game. It does nothing and is such a small area that you can even use it to stop a sap. Its pretty useless.
For Prot I feel like it’s actually in a pretty good place: it has a nice interaction with mastery, it has a snare via the talent, and it has a cooldown much shorter than its duration so that repositioning isn’t such an issue.
I agree it would be nice if Consecration were a little more impactful for Ret and maybe for Holy. But if it were very good, it would become really problematic because it’s a fairly small PBAoE ground effect. For example, a popular suggestion for many years has been to make Consecration heal allies… but if it did that, it would have to cost more mana, and it would make positioning incredibly annoying. Or if it were a larger component of Ret damage, we’d suffer more from repositioning. Overall I’m not sure I want to change our playstyle to depend on something like that in any substantial way.
Just mildly buffing its damage (so that, say, it was prioritized over the second charge of CS) would be kinda nice, or giving it some kind of non-critical secondary effect. The Golden Path conduit is a nice example here.
I would be ok with something like “standing in your consecration lets your CS hit up to five targets”. Works for DKs, would probably work for ret paladins, too. Not to forget that prot already has this functionality.
Conc needs to move with us and it needs to either generate 1 holy power if it hits more than 1 target, or do way more damage
And prevent enemies from leaving!
That would be ridiculously overpowered.
This is SLs, let’s completely break Pallys!!!
There is a conduit that makes it heal but only on yourself. I was so disappointed when I found out that second part.
Yeah there is, the only reason i don’t use it is that i find the WoG bubbles great for helping me cast LoTM alot more since the bubbles eat the self harm damage.
Honestly, the latter is its only redeeming feature to me.
Is being stuck in/on glow-ground, or forced to waste a GCD each time you have to move out thereof… fun?
Number-wise, it could be amazing in its contribution, but that still wouldn’t necessarily make it well positioned in spec design. (It’d only, as you sort of mentioned before, make it more intrusive.)
I’d probably dislike it less if it expanded in your direction when standing in it or attacking from within it, as if partly an aura, but that still seems like it’s just polishing an inherently lackluster concept.
Ret really doesn’t lack for AoE, though… Every CS is inherently an addition to AoE damage even when striking a single target, by nature of charging one of the best damn AoEs in the game, Divine Storm.
Moreover, Death and Decay doesn’t have 100% uptime available to it, unlike Consecration.
Neither does consecration cause if you are always wasting buttons pushing it, you are doing it wrong.
On Ret. That’s very different for Holy, which (while it remains very low priority), has no other means of AoE without sacrificing healing HP spenders, and especially Prot, which requires it for cleave effects and mitigation.
Either way, making Consecration let CS cleave would be an overbuff atop making a stationary non-generator GCD obligatory in your opening rotation in AoE, likely a gameplay nerf.
On a single target fight, after haste, it does more damage than Crusader Strike if they stay in it for the full duration. If you’re hitting 5 targets that’s 5x the damage of crusader strike. It’s a filler ability for all those people whining about Ret having too much down time. If you have spare GCDs, like pretty much all of us have, throw it in there.
I’ve always wanted it to heal allies, especially if you’re holy (or buff judgement of light?). Makes no sense we have that throwable lightning hammer instead of a Consecrated ground that can heal.
Im just sad that the only aoe button we have is divine storm and obviously final reckoning/wake of ashes/divine toll as cooldowns. But the basic rotation for our aoe is just using single target ability to use an aoe spender. It’s not fun.
We need an aoe builder or just something cleaving at least. Judgement hitting 2 targets baseline was really good and fun, and greater judgement talent was amazingly fun. And the reason judgement was nerfed to a 12sec cooldown was because it was hitting more than one target and mastery affected its damage, but when they removed that in BFA they kept judgement at 12sec when it was always 8sec before.
Maybe blade of justice could cleave damage.
