Conquest cap = Raid Lockout?

I think the last season of shadowlands with no conquest cap was the best season in terms of gearing my character ever. It allowed me to try different specs, builds, and stat combinations without having to wait weeks for the cap to be high enough to afford it.

It. Was. Fun! so why are we going back to this weekly cap? Not only does it punishes players that bought a piece of gear that they later found out could be crafted with better effects (Me, I bought boots not knowing about the Infurious ones) but it removes some of the incentives of playing arena once you hit the cap for the week.

In the same vein, why do we have weekly lockouts for raids? Why can’t I farm a raid as much as I want and have time for, to get my character geared in the loot that I want?

Well, the no conquest cap was an exception for the end of the expansion. Conquest cap has always been a thing. The current conquest cap extends each week into the season allowing players to do catch up and earn as much conquest as anyone else has.

I have been capping weekly since the start of the season and only get about 550 conquest points when I cap but I utilize the Great Vault for gear options that cost a lot of points so I can buy gear with the minimum conquest points I get for my cap. I spend time getting all 3 vault options unlocked for that purpose.

It may just be a thing where you have to wait two weeks to buy something from the vendor but there are other ways around it if you are lucky and help even if you aren’t lucky.

The crafting thing and not being aware is just a thing that happens, you kind of have to be aware or else you risk that, but when you have crafted pieces you are going to come to a time where you need to replace them so you still lose something either way. I didn’t know about tier pieces being on PvP gear so I created a Primal Infused gear piece where a tier piece goes and that just is what happens when you simply don’t know.

I have 423 PvP item level with the way the cap system is and it doesn’t take much time for me to get everything for the week done with PvP. You can always skip a week of capping to get more points out of the conquest cap but it’s not a situation where capping weekly puts you at a gear disadvantage and if you just hit 70 you have a long ways to go to get capped so you also don’t have to be in much of a disadvantage except for obtaining tier pieces which will soon be something we can convert gear into.

There is pro’s and con’s to both ends of the conquest cap and it’s just something that has always been there. In MoP and I think WoD there was a 2250 cap for the week and that was it. Ultimately still something that if was still around now could be functional.

Raid lockouts have always been a thing, for like every raid. If we didn’t have lockouts or caps we’d be running around getting things rapidly and run out of any incentive to play the content unless it’s on another difficulty.

them +2s were full of nerds.

I love when players forget that not having a cap for the entire season was the exception, not the norm.

Then, if it does ever happen, they will complain that they are getting 1shot by people in full conquest gear week 1 while they are still trying to farm up honor gear.

The caps and raid lockouts are to help even the playing field between unemployed people who play 24/7 and more normal players.

It keeps the field more even.

Yeah, but it should be the norm. Timegating, caps, etc are boring. Make the only block on our progression our skill, not some arbitrary nonsense. Why play the game if you’re just going to run into block after block?

“Makes N/H gearing useless” I believe is the usual reason.
I think maybe they could unlock valor after you reach 2500 rating, or whatever the final rating that has some achievement is. That could be the compromise?

So make raid spammable and up the difficulty to compensate, or give diminishing returns. Literally anything. The current loot system is terrible. It feels terrible, the progress is way too slow if you’re skilled and way too fast if you’re not. It’s just not rewarding.

How smooth does your brain have to be to compare S4 of SL to … anything?

I hate most gate keeping of any kind whether it be Reknown or whatever, but the cap on Valor is needed until the end of the season.
