Hi there! I’m hoping this is the right spot to post this. I’ve been having non-stop connection issues since I resubbed which was on the 23rd. I have Optimum Online / Altice as my ISP.
On the rare days that I don’t have issues, my ping will be around 40/60 on both Home and World. On the days it acts up, it’ll be around 180 - 300+.
I don’t mind the ping but what’s killing me is that I will randomly “time out” from the server. My spells will stop responding, I can’t log out, or click on anything. I have to Alt+F4 and then fight to get back into the game. Often times it will get stuck on the “Connecting to Realm” and won’t load on loading screens. I generally will be on discord with a friend who can still hear me and my internet still works outside of WoW, so I don’t think it’s anything with my entire net.
I’ve tried resetting my router, flushing my connection, changing the WTF/Cache/Interface folders to Old to see if anything was corrupt. Currently the only addon I’m using is Clique.
I appreciate any sort of help I can get, thanks!

Hey there! Let’s go ahead and have you run a ‘WinMTR’ network test while the problem occurs in-game so that we can further investigate potential network-related issues between your computer and the game server. Here are the instructions:
- Download the tool from this page
- Enter the game IP into the “host” field. The IP address for our games are listed on the WinMTR instructions page
- Start the test and play the game for at least 15 minutes. Ensure the problem happens while the WinMTR tool is running.
- After recording the problem data, click “export text” and save the WinMTR file in an easy to find location.
- Once you have that made, open the file. You’ll need to copy and paste the contents of the Text document into the post, and put four Tilde (~) marks above the WinMTR. It’ll look like this:

If you have issues pasting here, please use Pastebin and post the link (ex: Pastebin (dot) com/123456).
Hi Skelgarer! I hope I did this right. This first one was about 10 minutes of playing with a time out in the middle of it. I was flying to Maldraxxus and my drake finished the flight and didn’t dismount me, so I waited and the game reloaded and I was falling into the void.

seems to be a common thing atm with all the ppl saying the same thing in the forums
Aye, I’ve seen that but I also heard my ISP has been cruddy about this and they haven’t been the best in the past so I just wanted to make sure.
@Skelgarer - This is the second and longer WinMTR that I ran after the first reboot. There was no crashes but it also was getting a little laggy.

Myself and my friend have the same issue. ISP sat down with me and went over everything, and they saw no issue. Replaced my router and cords, and it does seem to be ONLY wow thats having issues for me and her.
Yeah, someone else said the same thing and they said switching ISPs was the only thing that worked for them but there’s gotta be another solution.
@Skelgarer - This test was running smoothly and the disconnect happened at the end of it.

Add me to the list of people having connection issues lately.
Home will stay 50’s and world will slowly climb to 400+ and get a random dc. No other internet service in my house is affected.
Started around the 23rd or 24th as well.
Inethlemar,
Your test results are a little weird, but it seems like connection is terrible? It starts either at your modem or right after your modem. Definitely in your ISP’s domain. I would call them up and ask them to take a look. Tell them you’re getting packet loss starting at your modem or first hop - sometimes the first tier of tech support isn’t familiar with packet loss, so if they say everything looks good then you might need to ask for a higher tier tech.
Thank you Tofflemire!
I wasn’t sure if I should have had the second line be a “no response from host” or not. I figured it was something with my ISP and not WoW, it’s just that WoW is really the only game that it’s noticeable.
Yea, your total number of packets drops after you hit the modem, which I’m not exactly sure how to interpret. But the entire test it looks like you’re dropping ~20% of your packets. That is a lot.

Gotcha. I’ll give them a call probably on Monday since I assume they’re going to be off for new years eve and day.

Bump for anyone else having the same issues.
Also, should I have that many “no response from host” at the end of my WinMTR? That seems unnatural.
I’m posting my path ping. everything seems normal but i have high world ping randomly sometimes. before i never had issues but we got a new fancy wifi mesh recently which worked great for a while but suddenly one of the channels developed higher world lag. I’m wondering if it is my extender not working properly or something or if there is wifi interference.

I am also having the same issue but not only my household in my area is having the issue. My nephew 5 mins away and a few of my tenants in different locations having the same issue. Northland Georgia is the ISP. The issue for some reason stops from 12pm-3pm est before or after that window all battle.net games are not playable. From random DC’s or just cant connect to server. This has gotten worse for a week now it started with Random DC’s to the point of just no connection.
The only fix I found was by using a VPN, but having to pay for a VPN just to play WoW is absolutely ridiculous.

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider
Inethlemar - My apologies for the delay in my response! And thank you for taking the time to follow up with the WinMTR tests. In regards to your WinMTR tests, Tofflemire is on the right track in stating that packet loss in the 20% range is almost certain to be what is causing your issues in-game. The "No response from host" just means that that specific “node” (or hop) did not respond to the ping that the WinMTR test sends – usually due to a network-level security setting or firewall.
That third hop above is the first hop that we’re seeing the packet loss. The packet loss could begin on the second hop, but unfortunately the data isn’t visible due to that No response from host. Your best bet will be to contact your ISP for assistance determining what is causing the packet loss. They might need to adjust network-level security/firewall settings or temporarily replace the network devices in your home to narrow it down further. Additionally, I always recommend requesting to be forwarded to a “level 2 or level 3 technician” when contacting the ISP since the front-line representatives typically only have access to basic diagnostics and troubleshooting tools.
Invincible - Your WinMTR test is showing 11% packet loss beginning at the 4th hop and persisting through all subsequent hops:
Unclepokey - Your WinMTR test shows 9% packet loss beginning at the 4th hop:
Whotan - Your test shows 1% packet loss beginning at the first hop:
This first hop is the connection from your computer to the router or modem (depending on what device you’re connecting to). Packet loss here is somewhat common to see with WiFi connections, so if you are using WiFi, try testing a direct connection to the router or modem via ethernet cable. Note that we do not directly support wireless connections. If you find that WiFi is the problem, you can contact the support team for the WiFi device or the wireless router.
If a wired connection doesn’t fix the issue or isn’t possible, and the troubleshooting steps here have no impact, I recommend contacting your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for assistance determining what is causing the packet loss.
Note: All issues reported in this thread have been identified as individual and unrelated. If you are experiencing connection issues, please start a new thread with your WinMTR test.
