Connection issues

The past few weeks, I have been having fairly frequent connection issues. Things like,

World server latency spiking past 5k ms
Zoning into an empty city
Disconnecting completely when switching characters

At first, I thought this was all on Blizzard, but as I have worked my way through it, I discovered more and more it had to do with the satellite uplink of my ISP being wrecked by solar storms and terrestrial storms. Certainly more the latter than the former.

So, now, rather than immediately jumping to the conclusion that it is Blizzard’s issue, I check the doppler radar weather map. If it is full of purple and red blobs, then I am pretty certain that it is my ISP’s issue.

The thing is, the interruptions of service have become so frequent that I can barely play the game most days, so I am feeling a bit frustrated. It’s not like I can hold either Blizzard or my ISP responsible for things like coronal mass ejections or storm fronts rich with thunderhead clouds and tornadoes.

Even my bank and local grocery store are having issues with their systems. That being the case, I am wondering how many other people are having similar problems?

This is better off in tech support.

It’s a common issue with satellite connections.one thing you might want to try is to run WoW on the lowest graphical settings that still enable you to see fishing pools. Less data info passing between you and the satellite means less opportunity for interruption.

Also, comm satellites are in a geosynchronous orbit above the equator. The further north or south of the equator you are, the longer data is in transit between you and the satellite resulting in more opportunity for interruption. Not much can be done about that though.

This info may be a couple of years out of date. Tech support forum regulars may be more current.
