Connection Between World Soul Saga and N.K. Jemisin's Broken Earth Trilogy?

I just went through the cut scene when turning in the weekly titan disc fragment quest, and it reminded me a whole lot of N.K. Jemisin’s Broken Earth trilogy (The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate, and the Stone Sky). It feels like the world soul crystal the Titans were referring to are very similar to the obelisks in Jemisin’s novels. Plus the Earthen seem very similar to the Stone Eaters in there as well. It would be really cool if the Hallowfall Arathi could quel earthquakes or something similar. But hey, I’ve been seeing aspects of the Broken Earth everywhere I look since I started reading it, so maybe I’m reading too much into it. What do you think?

I think that you are right.

I think it’s more likely that they’re both drawing from the same well of broad fantasy conventions than that it’s a direct reference.

And the Naaru are the Vorluun from Babylon 5 while the Void are the Shadow. Once you read/watch more fantasy and Sci-Fi you’ll never stop seeing similarities while playing WoW.

Now is that because Blizzard are highly derivative or is that because both genres are just derivative in general. Who knows?

Ideas are seldom original… only their expressions are.
