So my monk is holding 2 swords, Cutlasses to be exact. Is this correct? New monk here and in all the past games where I played a monk they never used “sharp” edged weapons. Or is it just aesthetic?
It’s aesthetics. Unless fist weapons, you never actually use the swords when attacking something.
Aesthetic. Using blades or not is up to you, fist weapons are better hidden. It’s because monks can equip all one-hand style weapons, aside from daggers.
You can also make your weapons invisible. Master Tan at the Peak of Serenity sells invisible fist weapons that can be mogged to make you completely unarmed.

Weird given warrior monks IRL did use these weapons.
In any case WoW monks, unless they are using fist weapons they don’t really use their weapons at all.
Thanks all… question: Do the stats matter then of the two swords I have equipped? Since you all say aesthetic I assume stats don’t matter on them.

It might be silly, but I shelved my monk because of this very reason back in Legion.
Well the stats still matter, but you can mog any 1H type of weapon you can weild over them so it doesn’t really matter.
So you can have two swords and still be weaponless (visually).

Unless you like the look of the weapons on your back, it might be best to mog them with something that doesn’t show up. The hand wraps I use, I believe, are sold in the monk temple we go to with Zen Pilgrimage.
The edged weapon restriction is from dungeons and dragons, where clerics couldn’t use them as part of a European-style religious creed.
The monk class in WoW is based off kung-fu movies, street fighter, and Shao-lin monks, not Benedictine monks or whatever. Go watch some kung fu movies and get ready for a fun time, your world is about to get a whole lot better!

They used to have a glyph that made there jab into another attack to hit with weapons. ( I think it may have changed the spell depending on the type of weapons you had) They wouldn’t use them all the time just for that attack. : / they took it out sadly in Legion. The playstyle felt good but yea when they did that they took out a lot of flavor from the spec.
