So Dagran wasn’t born until after Vanilla, we saw him as a infant in the time around Cataclysm, which takes places roughly 2-ish years after Vanilla. So even with the time-skip, he should be roughly 12-15 years old?
Then Faerin mentioned being a stowaway on the Arathi expedition, and being the first orphan ever, that means everything the Arathi have build in TWW had to have been in the past… what, 10-15 years?
Then we’ve got Anduin looking like he’s in his 30s, despite the game starting him out as a small child.
This would all sort of imply the player-character is… what, hovering somewhere around 50 years old now? Assuming you started your adventure during Vanilla?
The timeline seems completely out of whack, at least at a cursory glance. Does all of this stuff really check out? Am I missing something, or off on any of these?
Cataclysm starts in 28 ADP, TWW starts in 41 ADP. Dagran shows up as an infant in Cata but it can be safely assume that this was mainly due to there not being a Dwarf kid model available. If we say Dagran was like, 2 or 3 in Cata, then it means he is 16 in TWW, which completely checks out, since Dagran is clearly being presented as a teenager
Yes
That is short, but keep in mind that they had been living in peace for a few years before Beledar went dark and Kobyss started attacking them + theirs was a very important expedition sent by the Emperor himself so it stands to reason they had a fair amount of ressources onboard. Combine these two factors and I’d say it is decently believable that they could build these cities within that span of time
That’s what you look like when you’re depressed, exhausted and need a shave/bath
The PC is not actually canon so you’re not supposed to be thinking about that tbh
Moira was already pregnant with Dagran II in Vanilla, so he would have been born in late Vanilla or during BC.
The Warcraft Wiki has an unofficial timeline that does a decent job keeping track of the passing of time as best we know. Dragonflight took place roughly 40 years after the Dark Portal opened. 20 years have passed since the beginning of Warcraft III, and 15 have passed since Vanilla. Anduin’s about 25 years old in TWW, as he was 10 years old in Vanilla. Faerin’s of a similar age, but I think she mentions at one point having been in her teens when she stowed away, so she’s a little older than Anduin.
Yes, this means that your player character is a rather seasoned adventurer if they’ve been around since Vanilla. Two whole human generations have grown up since the Dark Portal first opened, and one has done so since Lordaeron fell to the Scourge. There are Blood Elf NPCs showing up in game now who have only ever been Blood Elves because they were born after Arthas wrecked Silvermoon.
Moira was pregnant with Dagran in Classic, making him 14-15 years old in DF and probably 16 in TWW.
The Hallowfall Expedition left the Arathi mainland 15 years ago, so roughly around the same time as Classic takes place. As others mentioned they had several years of peace before Beledar started shifting, most likely as a result of Sargeras stabbing Azeroth.
He’s 25 in DF and probably 26 in TWW.
Assuming our player characters in Classic started out as young adults like the starting zone quests implies, in the 18 to 22 range for an example, they’d only be in their 30s as of TWW. An orc could even be in their 20s as they reach adulthood at the age of 13.
Anduin is mostly in his 20’s. Dude is just dirty and beat up. He looked younger in BFA. Stress does indeed age people faster, just look at Gen Z compared to millennials. Gen Z look way older than they should be.
Well, no particular character is canon, but obviously the characters we play should feel like they exist. If they suddenly thrust the story forward hundreds of years, players would expect some sort of explanation about why our characters go there.
It seems like they’re playing fast and loose with the concept of “time”. It was never really an issue until Dragonflight; before then, it was always pretty ambiguous. It took place over the course of “a couple of years”, more or less.
But now, when you’re talking about a 20 year gap, that’s actually fairly massive.
For example I was twelve when WoW came out now I’m 32 which is roughly where Anduin looks. And if Dagran was born somewhere between Vanillia and Cata he’d be around 16-20 years old which sounds about right. Jania and Thrall are in their 40s and 50s. Etc.
Each of these options represent a specific time in the timeline, but you’re not bound to that when it comes to personal character writing I guess, but if your character was 20 in vanilla, your character would be 37 - 38 ish now.
Gnomes can live to around 500.
Elves and Draenei live thousands of years.
Forsaken don’t age.
Etc.
And then there is the whole magic thing. We have seen that if someone is strong enough with magic, it can drastically lengthen their life.
And not sure how some classes like Death Knights work now. They are undead, kind of. There seems to be a grey area there. Not sure if they age. And Demon Hunters are part demon, they are all elves (currently) so aging may not be an issue, but do demons age? Not sure how that would affect them. Personally, I would guess both cases their aging is stopped.
I dunno, still seems weird. Especially saying roughly the same amount of time has passed since WoW started, as between WoW and the very beginning of Warcraft 1. It feels weird to be playing the exact same game, but now we seem to be seeing a “passing of the torch” or “a new generation” of characters.
I dunno, like I said, it just feels kind of odd. I suppose it’s true that characters of different races will age differently, but just not sure I’m ready to see my character as “old”, nor the likes of Jaina and Thrall.
I can get that. I am not ready to see myself as old, though my niece tells me I am.
I guess it just depends on what you think of as ‘old.’ Jaina and Thrall are in their 40s. If your character was in their 20s in Vanilla they would be as well. Personally, I don’t think of 40s as old. But, that is just me.
your character’s age is up to you, moderated by what race they are and thus how long they live and at what age they reach adulthood. In my head Howlingfrog is old, one of the first generation orc warlocks who, while never truly reformed, regretted the damage Gul’Dan and the Legion did to Draenor and simply genuinely came to believe in Thrall’s vision of a new Horde that embraced the Orc’s previous traditions from before their corruption. He himself is still evil and enjoys it, but he feels that the rest of his race need not be.
All playable Dracthyr are over 20,000 years old due to be in stasis, Night elves can be between a few decades to over 10,000, and the same with Draenei but even further.
That’s how I feel. Fythra was a High Elf living in Windrunner Village with her family as craftsmen, mostly enchanting, tailoring, and Inscription. While not friends with the Windrunners, they did do business with them. She was a 150 years-old when the Scourge attacked and became a Blood Elf as her Prince decreed. To help protect the rest of her people she chose the path of a warlock.
