Conflicting reviews of WOW

I’m curious about the conflicting reviews of WOW that I’ve seen lately. If you listen to the major content creators they all say WOW is all but dead, people are leaving, never to return. However when you do a simple search on the “Top 10 MMOs for 2021” they all come back saying WOW is number one and no one else is close.

So what’s the story? Why such a disconnect on what the gaming mags are saying and what the content creators are saying?

Personally, I’ve been here since cataclysm and I’m still having a blast. By the way I’m in the bottom 85% to 90% that doesn’t do raids and I don’t do PvP. I just have fun doing quests and following the story line. Am I missing a reason that I should be really angry with WOW?

Don’t do that.

Well, this was a nice thread.

The only thing that matters

Please enjoy, other peoples’ aggressive frustration is not a good reason to stop enjoying this game.

Do you know what a shock jock is? Those streamer clowns have to use the negative stuff and spin people up to earn views. They just want to earn easy money.

The reality is no one really knows. About any games population. Except New World really. That’s about the only one we can do more than make educated guesses on.

WoW’s subs are inevitably lower than they were. By how much? Eh, who the heck knows. It’s revenue hasn’t gone down that much in the recent years so far(…though who knows about their next quarterly report). But that’s impacted by things beyond just subscriptions now.

People may not like how development has been with WoW, but objectively they have done a good job from the business standpoint. Which on paper doesn’t really do much for us, and yet it also ensures that WoW will be around for awhile so it kind of does affect us in that regard.

As long your having fun that is all that matters in the end, Yes lot people left and WoW is #3 MMO at moment we still host more players then most mmos and game still healthy with amount players. Yea it be nice if we were floating with 5mil again but were sitting around 1.2mil player base.

Nope. Everyone has their own opinions and perspectives. What you do with your money and what you enjoy doesn’t have to be the same as everyone else’s.

This is one of the best analogies I’ve seen.

I think the major ones all fluctuate between 1and 4.
We’re in a drought and a lot of not good stuff has gone/going on. Really doesn’t matter, as others have said, if you’re having fun.

The story is that WoW is in a slump. Not only was Shadowlands poorly received, but we are also in an extended content drought.

So the game is obviously not dead and it’s not the worst game ever made…but it is in a bad spot

Hopefully the changes in 9.1.5 will make it better for most players, but I don’t expect players to come running back until 9.2 (if they come back at all)

WoW is #2 on MMO Population right now. I suspect it will be back at #1 with the new patch.

The sub loss was scary enough for the higher-ups to force Ion to change his attitude, but if you enjoy WoW why not just play without worrying about others’ opinions.

This is subjective, if you don’t have concerns or complaints that’s fine. Don’t be bothered by it.

Top 10 MMOs isn’t that hard once you’re over a certain number of players, there is a lot of distance between one and ten.

As for the content creators, they are making criticisms because they are not having fun. They have a perspective, it’s their opinion, you can watch or not at your leisure.

WoW is still either number #1 or #2 with regards to most played MMO. It has the biggest history in the genre, following EQ, but it’s the King of MMORPGs. So naturally when you have basically from 2004-2018 WoW’s numbers couldn’t be touched.

But now, players are playing other games, and finding out that WoW doesn’t feel like an MMORPG anymore but more of an action-RPG with a small overworld. Most of the players complaining, or just left were and are the casual players. Some mythic players left too, but that’s a natural cycle, because they will be back for a raid tier. But casual players are the ones leaving and they’re leaving because they feel that no one in the development team cares about what a lot of casual players wants.

Because the MMORPG is a pretty barren genre. Big fish, little pond

People who say they are leaving (on the forums) actually don’t leave or return very shortly after. The ones who actually leave, leave quietly and simply cancel their account and move on.

There are still tons playing WoW. Sure, maybe not as many active players, but these non active players still keep their sub going.

The game is not even close to dead as there are still millions of active players. Watch especially from now until 9.1.5 launches. More will come back. Then more will come back again for 9.2 and 9.3 and then the next expansion will have many coming back.

No need to listen to reviews and honestly, who cares about the population? The game isn’t going anywhere.

This is like 200% bait.

wait.

When you been producing content for over 15 years. It is very hard to produce anything that pleases everyone anymore. A lot of people are bored with WoW, but are stubbornly addicted to it at the same time.

Streamers say what ever gets them clicks and money. You have groups of people complaining about the game and looking for someone with a voice to agree with them. A streamer will be there quick as can be to pick up on that. A streamer decides to cover a different game then all their fans will say the game is dead and it’s all over with because they will go follow the streamer to the new game.

1st off and most importantly do what you enjoy and not what people tell you to enjoy. There are a lot of games out there that people play and enjoy. They will tell you they are the best things in the world, but once you pay for them and play them for a bit often you find they are not that great and all you did is waste your money following the crowd.
