I have been conflicted as of late, I have a guild called the Nightingales, an anti criminal guild, but I also run events throughout the community, and I keep thinking of more RP to bring joy to the community, I know people say that running two guilds is easy, but If I plan to bring more events to the community how I want it, I think at the end of it, I will put more energy into my events guild then my anti criminal guild. Any advice would be nice. thank you. Boop <3
Have you considered crime?
Savi used to be a master criminal/Pirate. She is reformed now.
Best advice I can think of, assuming you havenât already considered or are actively pursuing this, is to establish some manner of support; officers or the like who can pick up the slack should find yourself stretched too thin or find yourself favoring one over the other. I imagine having people to rely on to keep things going would at least keep folks interested if or when you find yourself unable to stay atop everything.
Mind you, itâs not like Iâm speaking from experience (not quite, anyway) so take that how you will.
Thank you, that does help.
What are you even asking
Just if I should focus on one guild or try to do both.
You should set up officers in both guilds which help you to plan and maintain events for their respective guilds
Running two guilds is basically a full time job if you intend to keep them both active. Officers will help, as others have said, and it might also help to keep them connected with a single discord so nobodyâs feeling abandoned if youâre not focusing your full attention on one project at any point in time.
TBH Iâve seen enough people split their attention and let both guilds fall into ruin that Iâd generally advise against this, but if itâs something youâre really passionate about, I see no reason to abandon the cause. Youâll just need to find what works for you to make sure both groups feel maintained and seen, and be realistic with yourself about how much time you can devote to this.
Good luck out there.
Disband one, take all the money in the guild bank, and buy a silly mount!
ohâŚ
you wanted good adviceâŚ
nevermind.
I already asked if they considered crime.
Whose saying this? I want names.
Running ONE guild is hard, as it has the same expectations as any leadership role, running TWO is twice the work, effectively trying to be a manager of two fast food places hard.
Delegation is one key to success, the problem is in finding people even remotely up to being a fraction of a pillar to handle some of the stresses, many officers themselves burn out from so much as being a raid lead, or recruiting, or running a few campaigns or events⌠ALL of which a guildmaster oversees THROUGH their officers.
Itâs not a position to take lightly unless you want to fail. A good leader earns both respect and admiration, is both loved and feared. A good leader also has to have a spine to make hard or difficult decisions, this is another area where many fail.
I started my current guild with a M+ push group turned friends that I meet online through discord communities. ANNND this was all while at the same time that I was still raiding with an IRL friendâs guild that took me in after an interesting guild experience on another realm.
I did this for one season (GMâing a new guild + raid healing for my IRL Friend) and was like âNOPEâ - and this is just PvE related stuff. Iâd imagine the depth of the RP events youâd want to hold would require more time investment than just looking at raid guides and starts. I made the decision to step down from raiding with my Friendâs guild - but still pester them from time to time ofc >.>
BUT - I know several people who multi-guild with no issues. So, I guess it just depends on your personality and availability. BUT - like, for me, I started noticing very early (like week one of this season) that I was on the fast track to burn out. So I had to make the decision. My advice is that if you start noticing you canât do both - figure out which one you want to keep and drop the other asap.
I think you should take a moment to consider the opinions and feelings of the people within the guild(s) that you run, and how they might perceive things if you split your attention between the guild they are in and other projects.
I can only speak for myself, but having been in a guild previously where the GM and the rest of its leadership became more sporadic, and it became clear that their earnest attention and interest had since been diverted to other avenues of roleplay other than the guild, I became very much detached from wanting to progress further and give things my âallâ so to speak.
At the end of the day, I think everyone should be encouraged to explore what they find most entertaining, and to do what they wish, but beyond the obvious of collecting a few helpful, trustworthy officers to keep things rolling in your stead, considering your membersâ opinions should be your next step as a GM.
