huh? did this actually happen?
HoTS isn’t canon
So? Why would it matter?
Unless you are just fishing for responses AKA trolling.
I’m super late to this mess, but haven’t we known Chromie’s full name since forever, and the name uses male bronze dragon naming conventions?
This isn’t even new information.
It doesn’t matter what I think it means.
Reasonable people who arent just being dopes can all agree.
Pretending being trans and all the challenges, stresses, pressures, and discriminations that entails is somehow related to made-up mystical dragons in wow because some dragon “trans” formed into a gnome is disrespectful and diminishes the struggles of actual trans people in the world.
It is disgusting to try and use Chromie or any cartoon characters in this way.
You are a disgusting human being and its people like you that are the reason trans suicide is so high.
You think some 14 year old trans kid is like OH HAHA THIS GUY ON WOW SAYS CHROMIE IS TRANS BECAUSE SHE CAN TURN INTO A GNOME GIRL HAHAHA WOW I WONT COMMIT SUICIDE NOW.
You’re hurting people. Stop it.
Imagine caring about this.
I have trans people in my life. You just treat them like you do any one else. You don’t need to fight them over their pronouns or take time out of your day to “validate their identity.” You just act like a normal person and treat them like a normal person.
WHY CAN’T YOU BE NORMAL.
i’m just here to help with this.
I don’t follow this kinda stuff really, but this is pretty shocking. A grown male identifying as a little girl is probably the #1 worst stereotype affecting transfolk, pretty shocking to see blizzard put something so transphobic in game.
Does nobody think these things out?
Before the book, devs always said their name was an exception (this is before Danuser), they later confirmed it with HOTS quote, and then the book happen and then they pretty much said sike, they’re actually a male.
So what about Chromie? Does she like being a gnome woman or is she positioning herself as a gnome woman? Not that I know what the difference is, but it seems to me that it is.
And gnomes are not little girls. They are gnomes.
If the dragon is the same gender as the human girl gnome how is it transitioning.
Having said that has anyone checked under the hood of the dragon to confirm this
Nailed it on the head, every single time ANYTHING lgbt is shown people cry forced diversity or some bs that just screams red flag bigotry. REALLITY HERE is that it doesnt matter treat it like its nothing bizzare thats what everyone wants thats the test here you see a character people have been theorizing as trans with not really the most difinitive decision thats reveal as such that doesnt change the character, Chromie is still the gnome dragon we all love and nothings important to note, clap that Blizz made something cool for folks and move on.
It’s all gender appropriation regardless.
And just because a few select definitions say gender is more then just male and female don’t make it true. If it is then… Identity appropriation
Science disagrees.
You know what does not refute science? Someones opinion.
I don’t take issue with a character being trans, but it seems… Somehow not?
I mean who’s to say dragons are either gender when they can present as whatever they wish? One could argue they’re both genders, and no gender at the same time
Idk, I guess the decision seems less important when it’s not permanent and just how they’re feeling that day. When changing your gender is as easy as changing your clothes it just seems like the choice carries far less weight
It also seems like a lazy choice in a way. Rather than writing an actual trans character, Blizzard just grabbed one that can shapeshift at will and was like “Oh yeah, they’re trans…”. It just seems like it was an easier way to put a character under the trans umbrella without having to actually go into their struggles or story about being trans
Ya? I would find it odd that a social construct is backed by science in any way. Religion has been begging for scientific backing for ages. What makes the social construct of trans any different?
Oh and don’t forget science has to be repeatable. So any source I go to for a definition needs to agree unanimously.
I refuse to see this as anything other than a political stunt. personally. Seems weird to retcon the Chromie retcon now of all times.
I dislike it when corporations make disingenuous statements for political points, and it’s something you’re going to see a lot of this month in particular from not just Blizzard.
But meh, Chromie is one of the few characters this can naturally occur with, so I don’t care that much at the end of the day. I just find the motives of the writers to be…questionable.
Reality. Your opinion does not disqualify a whole subset of people.
Trans people are quantifiable and proven.
No, it doesnt, because there will always be people willing to take pay to say otherwise.
Now let’s tackle what it means to be Transgender. As our society has become more sympathetic and empathetic to transgender men and women. We’re now blurring the details of what it means to be transgender. People equate it simply to pronoun change, others proclaim when you actively move to present yourself as the opposite gender.
What -precisely- does it entail? Is it no longer dealing with the condition of gender dysphoria? Is it a label for not wanting to adopt or assume traditional gender roles? Are current existing titles not something you define yourself?
Trans-gender people exist. That isn’t on debate. But rather what precisely is being trans entails now in current day values?
I wish i had an answer for this. I barely have answers for myself.
