Conduit issues for PVP'ers in 9.2

Update 4/8 After progressing through ZM a lot of these issues have been fixed. Right now until you hit 2.4k in PVP the best path to get conduits is running +15 keys, which drop 265s. Until then the only other fast upgrade is hitting revered with the “enlightened” for a 239 upgrade for ALL for conduits. But also hitting 3k IO isn’t terrible this season, which also rewards 278 conduits. I was able to do this in 4 weeks of pugging keys. So the path for the fastest conduit upgrades for PVP’ers appears to be ZM > M+ or hit 2.4k with lower lvl conduits and get the upgrade item from the vender. Sadly, there isn’t any middle ground for PVP to progress 265 conduits at duelist. So, M+ is basically a great option for conduits until PVP’ers have a clearer path.

I tried posting this topic in general forums but it doesn’t seem to get any attention, to what I believe is a significant issue.

PVP’ers and M+ players need paths to gain max level conduits. Gating the 278 mass conduit upgrade behind elite, m+ and mythic raiding, just creates further barriers to climbing to those levels.

Many people don’t view conduits as impactful to gameplay because we are mainly looking at negligible differences in potency conduits, but the big scaling from 200-252 is in defensive conduits.

As an example, for a restoration shaman, the vital accretion conduit is the difference of having 11% more overall HP from a lvl 145 conduit to 252 (20% increase HP to 31%). Just from one conduit. As your ilvls increase on your gear this 11% is more impactful, naturally. I can go over many of the defensive conduits and their scaling and the impact they have on PVP game play as well as pushing high keys.

The defensive conduits scale much more significantly, and thus play a bigger role than we imagine.

If we give all elite PVP’ers 278 conduits, this will create an even bigger barrier for those pushing from 2.1 to 2.4.

If we are going to tie conduits to a PVP achieve to unlock. it should be 2.1.

But I still don’t think either of this is wise.

If we also gate the 278 conduit unlock behind hero achieve for m+, then the community will create a conduit lvl requirement in order to join their push team.

Having high lvl defensive conduits is the difference in surviving many mechanics in m+ as well as many go’s in PVP.

This isn’t a tiny issue, and it’s created more problems and toxicity between players than blizzard realizes. “Why you die man” vs. “Wow, you’re a pro gamer and you survived that go… I’ll add you.” Because the later player took the time to farm Korthia and they had the hp or the defensives to handle it.

I see a lot of people between 1.8 and 2.1 who have lvl 200 conduits, some with green. They just go flop.

If we don’t have a farmable path to max conduits for players who don’t raid than we have massive issues, as well as the issues this creates for solo players and pugging.

Venruki also talked about this problem. Watch his video on solo play.

These are the layers we’ve created in this game today, barriers of entry, that prevent some good gamers from progressing because they simply don’t know how to get these conduits maxed.

Bottom line: We need a better path for PVP conduits and for those pushing keys.

(edited for 2 tiny typos, no significant content changes)

(updated 2/24 - after running ZM, I can say that the friendly conduit upgrade that unlocks all conduits to 226 is not account wide, it is also character specific. So I had to grind it on my horde character and another to get the 226 upgrade for PVP use. And grinding friendly on a 2nd character isn’t easy if you skip the storyline, fyi. I assume the 239 conduit upgrade on revered isn’t account wide either, so PVP’ers we are going to be farming a lot of ZM on alts. My only hope is that when our main character is exalted the friendly and revered upgrades will be able to be bought on alts, it is probably gated by exalted. I’ll be there every day, wished faction HKs in war mode gave rep in ZM haha).

It’s really not a big deal, youl have 226 and 239 catchups from the rep vendors, you can hit glad with ilvl 200 conduits, I guarantee you it’s not a huge disadvantage

A simple and decent solution would be to add an item that upgrades one of your conduits to ilvl 278 similar to existing 226 and 252.
One for PVEs - for Cosmic Flux.
One for PVPs - for Honor / Conquest.

Adding incremental conduit upgrades at 1800 and 2100 would be a nice middle ground.

I feel like once you are already at 2400 you probably don’t need max conduits to finish the 50 wins for glad, it’s more of an “icing on the cake” type of scenario.

What’s the actual difference between 239 and 272 conduits? Are we talkign like 1-2% increase?

I guess I’ll be using 200ilvl conduits on alts for the rest of the expansion. Top tier game development.

Not sure on the new zone but Korthia did offer ways to get conduit upgrades. While it was not strictly from PvP, it was something.

Some defensive conduits will improve significantly. The accretion shaman conduit I gave is an extreme example, which provides a 20% increase HP (when EE is active at ilvl 145 conduit) up to a 31% HP from an ilvl 252. Basically this conduit is 1/3 better at max ilvl for season 2 (not 1-2%). The scaling will continue to progress at higher ilvl conduits. There are many strong defensive conduits like this, including some for rets, warriors, mages, etc, that scale rapidly and impact gameplay.

I definitely remember the CD reduction on the Die By The Sword conduit making a large difference going from 200 to 252 on my war. Having a major defensive ability up even 1 second sooner can be the difference between living and dying. The current system for conduit upgrades is just another GLARING example of terrible game development. Why would you not give PVP’ers a way to upgrade their conduits through…get this…pvp??? LIke what in the actual F? It’s 100% stuff like this that has made people quit in droves…yet such a simple fix. More people need to be fired I think…unless the goal is lower participation than last season.

when conduits literally make the difference of 3-4 seconds when reducing CDs or 20% when increasing damage. you need direct paths with no RNG and no slog of a grind to get them.

All they need to do is add them to conquest vendors, or let them be upgraded with honor.

For M+ or raiding, they could get tokens for killing bosses to upgrade them, or valor. idk i dont pve.

It really is a VERY simple fix and I can’t believe we’ve gotten to season 3 with zero solutions. Absolute incompetence.

You can hit gladiator with 200 ivl conduits, as I mentioned above, it’s not going to make or break your game play

I’m sure it was stuff like that and not the blatant sexual harrasing that was going on, while some conduits do help they won’t make or break how you play if you’re good, besides theres 226 and 239 catchup for conduits in zereth mortis from the rep vendor so you won’t be stuck at 200 ilvl base conduits

It’s not about people being able to “still hit gladiator”, or really any rating…it’s about fairness of competition and an even playing field. The fact is you’d be better off having fully maxed out conduits than ilvl 200 conduits…and so they’re should be a relatively accessible way for pvp’ers to obtain them.

So you want templates, they where aweful, if you work for the gear you should have the advantage in the first place, but not having maxed out conduits is certainly not going to put you at a disadvantage in the first place

How did you come to the conclusion I wanted templates? I want conduit upgrades obtainable through pvp (not just at elite) up to the max level, through a mixture of conquest/honor and rating required.

This

I’m actually not sure why arena / M+ / raids don’t have a chance to drop the conduit upgrade tokens that you can get from Korthia for 226 and 252.

Seems like an obvious addition that would be good for all types of gameplay.

Right, so i’m saying if you’re starting fresh as a toon, there should be a way for you to grind out your conduits from ilvl 200 all the way to ilvl 278 (or whatever the new max is) strictly through pvp. I’m not saying they should be handed to you. The current grind has to be done outside of pvp, and is wayyyyyyyy too long for a new player…The gear grind is also wayyyyy too long for a new player, but at least it can be done strictly through pvp.

Yet more blizzard showing how much they seriously don’t care for the PvP’ers IMO. I know a LOT of people who only PvP. I am one of them. Why time and time again does blizzard put SO much effort into forcing people to raid or M+… when we just want to PvP all day. My point here is that conduits are just yet another blatant and obvious disregard for PvPers. Shame.
