Does anyone actually know if, and how this conduit works?
It sims best for me ‘this week’ because I can take the extra potency slot before I unlock the final row.
However, whether I have this socketed or not, none of my abilities ‘appear’ to be stronger in anyway, whether I use msw to cast them, or just let it build up.
My assumption is that ‘when you spend’ maelstrom, you get a buff for 2% of the maelstrom spent (per stack), which empowers your next ability.
However, there is no buff, and they are not empowered anymore than they would by using 5 msw… You can test this by capping to 10x, then hitting lightning bolt twice.
If the above is how it’s supposed to work, the 2nd one should be 10% higher, but it’s the same.
That also means that it’s not based on how many maelstrom you have, because again, 10 msw would be 20% increase whilst 5 would be 10% increase, therefore making them different, and they’re not.
So does this thing actually work? Or am I just doing something wrong?
Pretty sure it’s just supposed to be a bonus on the consumed stacks just like the regular msw bonus. So if it’s +2% per stack then instead of 5 stacks doing 100% extra, they do 110% extra. Meaning instead of going from 65% baseline to 130% at 5 msw stacks you go from 65% to 136.5% at 5 MSW.
The conduit just affects the % healing/damage bonus per MSW stack. At my level it’s a 2% boost, so each stack boosts the damage of the next cast by 22%, and at 5 stacks it would predictably be 110%.
It’s pretty bad at lower levels (the levels available to us), but yeah it’s the 2nd best.
Thing to keep in mind is that if it’s a 10% bonus, that really just means 5% more overall damage/healing since baseline 5 MSW is already 200% and you’re just going to 210%.
So it’s pretty minor. Particularly since MSW casts are only a small percentage of our total damage.
Part of the value of the conduit vs other potency choices is that it also helps our heals a little bit.
But if you really care about heals you could go for swirling currents potency conduit instead and get 5x as much bonus healing.
