Concerns about profit and professions

Scribes, enchanters, jewelcrafters and alchemists are able to make their best quality items and post them for competitive prices making items that are considered BiS for the raid. How is a blacksmith supposed to make any profit when everything at a decent ilvl is BoP and the only way we can get it out to other players is working for trash tips through the work order system.

I’ve been pretty dedicated about getting the rep, farming and even buying the recipes to set myself apart from other smiths on the realm. Is it intended that I cannot make any real profit with this profession? The public work order system is generally dead, even after the start of the raid. How is it reasonable for scribes to be able to sell BiS darkmoon cards for millions of gold while I’m stuck with the best thing I can sell being blues?

if there are 20 1k gold for work orders ill will not turn them down
but if they message says i want a lvl 5 imho they need to tip good

yeah, but what if theres like 1?

will still take it free money is free money

Meh, darkmoon deck for me has fallen greatly… and orders are now mainly for things from the new raid or high renown with some faction.

Then you see them want 5 star on things I have no way of raising to that point or they want something I didn’t spec in at the beginning. It just plainly sucks.

That said, yes, blacksmiths needed to find the pvp recipes cause it seems that was selling. Other pvp recipes too. For now though it ain’t gonna be a great money maker unless you have that one sought after thing.

You’ll be stuck advertising probably … you are probably better off with a different profession unfortunately.

Tthis whole system while nice is so annoying for me to even break even after dumping gold into them to level.

Yea, looking at my only crafting order for the epic season 1 pvp boots with the stun reduction - commission? 200g.

Plan sells for 200-300k. Make this make sense.

The biggest problem with the work order system is that it is inconvenient - the second biggest is that people can’t figure it out.

I am just about the only one of my server that can make R5 blue profession equipment, yet I made far more gold from selling the green equipment than I ever will from selling the blue after all that work. Even advertising 4 times a day I rarely get more than 2 orders. If I could sell those items on the AH at 50k I wouldn’t be able to keep up.

I’m in the same boat that you are.

I just filled 2 public orders this morning. One was for 1000g commission and one for 2000g commission. I was making 5k to 10k profit for each of the green items.

You obviously didnt spend on patterns to make higher quality items.

The profession system is not there for you to make gold, it’s there for people to be able to do cool things with making items for characters.

Because consumables are constantly in use, something like Alchemy is also a money-maker. Most professions aren’t.

Yea my best selling stuff was the green pvp gear which patterns where going anywhere from 10-100k. I was able to snipe a few for a good cost and made my money back there. Now that the season has started the price of the craft is nearing the selling point so its no longer profitable.

you are so out of touch - I guess you go to work each day solely for the reason of being ‘helpful’ to others.

Show me a blizzard post to confirm this is by design. Never once have I heard this.

They pulled that out of their back end. This below tells me how clueless they are. I was making a million gold per day crafting gear in BfA.

Show me a Blizzard post that says the purpose of professions is for you to make gold.

The good stuff from BfA crafting was soulbound to the maker, though, wasn’t it? I’m thinking like those crafted items from Eternal Palace where you would collect the knicknacks to get the upgraded recipe.

I sell three star gems for 7 to 9 k gold while it only cost me 2 k to make them

Commission orders that come in have sometimes been 4 to 5k gold saving mats ,sometimes even giving me mats because of resourcefulness perk

Gold making is a breeze as JC now, but its not going to last past the first month

Good stuff to ‘you’ isn’t good stuff to others. Most sales on the auction house are for convenience purposes.

And Ion stated there would be plenty of gold making opportunities in DF from professions not just as much from the legendaries.

After that comment I have to wonder if they aren’t just straight out trolling in all these threads - I thought they were being serious up to that.
