I want to share my concerns regarding the recent change to M0 dungeon lockouts from weekly to daily in The War Within.
Increased Anxiety: A daily lockout creates significant anxiety for players. If we don’t clear all eight M0 dungeons each day, we miss out on potential loot for those dungeons permanently for that day. This daily pressure can make the game feel more like a chore rather than an enjoyable experience.
Past Lessons from World Quests: We’ve been here before. Daily world quests before Dragonflight were heavily criticized for similar reasons—they created a constant sense of urgency and anxiety. Blizzard responded by changing them to a semi-weekly schedule (twice a week) to reduce this burden. It’s worth noting that this change was widely appreciated by the community.
Community Feedback: The change to a daily lockout was introduced in Dragonflight Season 4, but many players were either inactive or not fully aware of the implications. Now, with more players returning for The War Within, this change is drawing considerable criticism.
Balancing Concerns: In a recent discussion with Maximum and Morgan Day, it was mentioned that the development team uses an equation to balance M0 rewards in terms of item level and loot frequency. Specifically, M0 rewards are now 1 reward track lower to offset the increased frequency of loot opportunities due to the daily lockout. While the logic is understood, the change seems to be causing more harm than good in terms of player experience.
Proposal for Improvement:
I highly recommend changing the M0 lockout from daily to twice a week, similar to the current world quest schedule. Additionally, slightly increasing the item level of M0 rewards would help balance the reduction in loot frequency.
This adjustment should be implemented in The War Within Season 1, rather than being postponed to future seasons. It would significantly reduce player anxiety and contribute to a more positive expansion launch experience for everyone.
Thank you for considering this feedback. I believe these changes would greatly enhance the enjoyment of the game for many players.
i think m0 going to a daily is a step in the right direction with future expansions just removing it and having m0 on the dungeon finder for pugging would be amazing. and if you can convince your group to go into m+ or do it the normal way is just as good
M0 is the equivalent of old-school heroic dungeons so it makes sense for them to be on a daily lockout. I don’t see the issue here. Nobody is going to put a gun to your head and demand you run eight dungeons every day.
Mythic 0 is basically like the old Heroics of TBC, WOTLK, Cata and so on. Those had daily lockouts and gave decent gear. If you wanted to farm them daily you could if not, then you didn’t. No one really cared either way.
Wait… Reducing the lockout on M0 dungeons? That thing people were asking for? Seems to be a good change.
Arguments of players “having anxiety” about falling behind on gear on a dungeon gear path is pretty silly and a player-created problem. If someone was so intent on doing a M0 tour every day or they’d have a panic attack, they’d strangely be doing more work than just running 8 M+ for the vault and being done for the week.
Daily rewards seems OK, it does introduce anxiety to fresh expansion, especially first 2 weeks.
Instead, we should align M+ rewards with raid lockouts.
Currently comparing M+ and raid rewards, we can observe that:
M+:
No lockouts. Means “technically” infinite chance to get loots. (M2 - M5 champion, M6+ heroic)
Great vault for track +1, up to 3 slots. (M10+ for myth)
Raid:
1 loot chance per difficulty per boss.
Great vault for track + 0, up to 3 slots.
They obviously not aligned properly as they can consider as ways of end game challenge contents.
To fix this caveat, I propose several different ways to align two reward systems, may be picking 1 to couple of these would make game feel awesome:
Make raid BOSS able to repeat farm, and allow to drop equipments all the time. (For normal and heroic). Mythic raid remain the same.
Alternative to (1), Change M+ to not infinite grindable. Possibly, one chance per dungeon per week. (Well I believe this is what Blizzard will like, cutting down rewards as always).
Make mythic raid bosses drops heroic gears and grindable.
Alternative to (3), make M+ > 10 (or maybe a higher threshold) drop myth track gears, one chance per dungeon per week.
Let raid great vault grant tier + 1 track gears. That means mythic and heroic raid will both unlock myth track gears.
Players can still have bad lucks even with above suggestions. Possible implement a lesser version of bullion that you grind enough times and not receiving some key gears (e.g. bis trinkets), you can use it as a bad luck protection.
Make every single BOSS from raid and every single dungeon can guarantee a drop by chance. That means you can repeat your grind until you get a gear from this boss/dungeon. For raid specifically, bring back personal loot for this idea.
In addition to 7, if some unfortunate players still cannot get the dream gear for several weeks. Introduce a system to recycle gears to some currency for its certain boss/dungeon. People can exchange certain amounts of gears to the actual gear they want.
Bring back the gear “track” upgrade system like what you did in Shadowlands S4. Grinding raid bosses and M+ can grand a shard of upgrade, x shards make 1 upgrade item. Limit y shards acquired per week per difficulty.
Bring back roll coin (not sure about the name, but you choose to perform an extra roll when you beat a certain boss on your own in Legion).
I don’t even know how to reply to those ideas without coming across as rude, so let me just say I’m glad you and OP seem to have found a guild of like minded people to play with xD
