Concerns about housing slots

When housing got announced and more information came in, I was quite hyped about the amount of item slots we would be able to place. 300 for the start sounded great and the prospect of being able to have 2000 slots later, or even more, for up to 9 rooms was extremely exciting.

However, seeing the alpha footage of how this actually works got me pretty concerned.

Having 300 slots doesn’t mean we get to place 300 items, no. Every item uses up a different amount of slots. A normal bed for example already eats up 5 slots. Putting two windows at the wall and placing a lamp at the ceiling - another 7 slots gone.
Which basically means that even if you only want to start with two rooms, they might turn out to be pretty empty. With 8-9 rooms, even at a later Renown stage with more slots, there’s a chance that it won’t be possible to decorate those rooms with a bit more clutter.

I’ve done a good amount of decorating and building in FFXIV, a housing system that leaves a lot to be desired. In a smaller house with two rooms there’s an item (!) limit of 300 and often it’s barely enough to decorate it nicely with more details added. It feels very limiting and for years the community has been advocating for more additional slots. 300 items sound like a lot at first, but get used up very quickly as soon as you start to experiment with more cozy decor and don’t want some empty corners or too much space between furniture.

With this in my mind I’m very concerned that WoW’s housing will feel just as, or even more, limiting than other games regarding the slots and a bigger house will have the consequence of leaving some rooms sparsely decorated.
How do you feel about this?
