Concerning the neglect of the Nightborne

And why exactly are they unworthy of being a PC when we have void elves, a race with the flimsiest lore reason for existing ive ever seen

They were night elves. It says so when you meet whats her face in Suramar.

Yeah, 10000 years ago. On those timescales every elf is a night elf.

Both Nightborne and Void elves shouldn’t have been added.

Void elves were a spiteful conciliation towards Alliance players asking for the High elves that they already had in the faction but were not playable.

Nightborne also retcon some Night elf lore and don’t really add anything to Horde that Blood elves don’t already.

Except unlike blood elves some are old enough to remember being night elves.

like the age gap between thalryssa and lor’themar is HUGE. Like we know high/blood elves live to like 3,000 years maximum and we know Thalryssa was an adult when the dome came up 10,000 years ago making her a minimum of that age. So even of Lor’themar was at death’s door of old age around ~3k and Thalryssa was barely an adult 10k years ago that means she’s still over triple his age.

I agree with everything everyone’s said, and as. Wyrmrest player I love how many baby time running Shamdorei I’m seeing run around. Levelling another for my warband now.

Copium maybe, but hoping Lemix and playing in Suramar makes them a more visible race in the player base, and consequently getting them some love in customization/ cosmetics

There’s a questgiver or two implied to be that old (long before BFA too)

Like we know high/blood elves live to like 3,000 years maximum

We actually don’t. Anasterian was king for 3000 years, we have no other indication of how long he lived but Kael’thas had absolutely no intent of succeeding anytime soon and he can’t have been much less than a few centuries old if we pretend that somehow Anasterian (who I will remind died of violent causes) was expected to die anytime soon. If Kael’thas was much younger, then clearly Anasterian wouldn’t have been considered old 3000 years into his reign.

Either way the whole thing rests on the assumption that Anasterian was literally crowned as a toddler.

Hi. I believe this is not an illusion, but rather the thread I’ve been looking for. I’m a WoW elf aficionado, and have recently ‘re-discovered’ the Nightborne, if that makes any sense at all. I loved the race since I first saw the concept art, and the Suramar design and storyline have IMO been pivotal to WoW’s modern development. I love Suramar so much, that I even wrote a course paper about its story and spatial immersion over the summer. It’s been a true wonder to revisit in the Legion Remix besides.

As for the Nightborne as a playable race, alas, there are still some areas for improvement. I think the most recent customization updates have added some great options that echo the NPC models, but there are some errors, bugs and lore inaccuracies. For example, the squinted eyes should IMO be ~15% narrower, and not as ‘flexible’ (as the look drops in many animations and with camera zoom distance…). The glowing hands aren’t too bad, but still nowhere near the unique effect added in Legion. Also, as much as I’d have loved to see skeletons more similar to the Nightborne or even Nightfallen and Withered NPCs - the idle pose is at least authentic. And yet, further emulations of the sub-races listed could be added, for example via skin tones, faces and hair colors. I also think the original (subtle pink-ish) eyes should be restored as an option (similar issue to the Worgen on Cata Alpha vs Release…). Additional Fel customizations could also be added (to play on recent hints for potential future DH implementation). Other things like new jewellery, ear length options would also be soon overdue. There are great designs in online fan art, showcasing different customizations e.g. Withered Nose, Fel tattoos, original NPC eyes, new hair styles… edit: and mana-stranded hair!
The potentials are as infinite as the Stars, to say the least.

I’ve also recently re-encountered a video listing the originally planned racial abilities. Magical Affinity, and the newly improved Arcane Pulse are quite nice, IMO. My PvP Mage and (newly) Warlock are currently Nightborne, though I’ll probably change the Mage just for the sake of roster variety come Midnight. Still, I would’ve wished to see the scrapped Racial abilities ‘Masquerade’ and/or ‘Dispell Illusions’ be introduced or preserved in some form. So far, I find that the Nightborne are one of, or perhaps even my new, slowly-creeping-up-as favorite race. And, so, here’s a glass of Arcwine - and a toast to the race hopefully catching-up on new lore and story relevance, (cleaning up Suramar from demons?! It could receive a treatment similar to Gilneas in Dragonflight, connecting it to Silvermoon via portal and/or boat) and customization in the new expansion and/or beyond! :wine_glass: :elf: :bubbles: Also, Nightborne Druids please and when? :tiger: Thanks!

Same with Kul’tirans, specifically the low numbers are because of the reverse Night Elf conundrum female KTs have of old lady resting :poodle: face, but that was also on them for going through all the effort of making a new skeleton without understanding that what cosmetic and customization options LOOK LIKE, is just as important to an RPG audience.

Plus, if they redid the parent models to fix up Night Elves, they’d also fix clipping issues with the Nightborne and the Haranir since they all three use the model. Then give the Nightborne a better passover to bring them closer to NPCs.

Y’know what? Blizz should use some Microsoft money and take two expansions to just respectively bring PC models up to NPC standards with animations and looks, as well as revamp all old world zones to the current zone standards.

5%? we must have very different options available.

Two words …Legion Remix.

But seriously look at the void elves …we have just started to get new content ever since we were tacked onto the Alliance to give them a blood elf like race. You had an entire expansion’s worth of lore …let us have this W for once.

I love nightborn, I love being a nightborn. I hate we don’t get any love.

Our city isn’t a proper city still. No AH/Bank etc and we only get a small part of it as a “safe” zone.

We barely get lore past legion and we have nothing from what can be gleamed from alpha for midnight even though this is the “elf” expansion.

Im truly surprised that this post has gotten so much attention and continues to get so much attention and feedback. It’s too bad blizzard doesn’t read the forums because it’s blatantly obvious that the Nightborne aren’t some ignored choice no one cares about. People DO choose Nightborne and there is no reason for them not to receive the same attention as the other three elven choices.

They haven’t really shown everything but there’s an endgame delve in Suramar in testing, which I think bodes well for later game content in the level 90 stuff?

The first time I saw the Nightborne, I very much wanted them as a playable race. I think they have some of the best aesthetics in the game. Seeing Thalyssra in the cutscene, Elisande, Spellbalde Aluriel, Star Augur, etc, literally just every npc man. You type in Nightborne on google and like the four image comparing the two is just sad.

I’ve come to love how perfect all gear is on Draenei, but if they fixed nightborne to be more like the npcs, I’d switch over in a heartbeat. Man, the nightborne faces for player characters are so abysmally ugly. Some are just “slightly” passable.

Why give me new races if you are going to neglect them?

Give Me Suramar Elf Stuff.

pls

Surumar has one of the best zone stories in ffxiv by far.

Gonna have to be specific, there’s a lot of stuff in Suramar, including apparently a vague brothel reference… (I actually went back and did the entire campaign that I’d never started on this character to see what they meant by “brothel” because I kinda zoomed through Suramar in Legion and it’s a “Matron” and her “Girls” I’m not even sure it’s a brothel? Might be a school or even a shelter of some sort, it’s just all kinda vague)

Nightborne probably would have been better off if they’d been added as more appearance and class options to Night Elves, and set up so you have Night Elves on the Alliance side, and Nightborne on the Horde side, with just a few racials to distinguish them.

The whole new appearance thing really backfires on the allied races.

YES! The place where the madam killed the damn demon herself to protect her ‘girls!’ I loved that moment. You go in to rescue people from demons and there is a giant six armed demon lady on the floor.

No, I mean all the Suramar stuff. The trees, the furniture, everything. Specifically though the entire contents of the Nighthold’s Botanist area. Glowy things. Many glowy things. See also the mushrooms from WoD.
