I’m really concerned about the Midnight changes to Dragonriding. The Vigor system is what made flying feel more involved, with things like skimming the ground, diving for momentum, and keeping speed to stay in the air. I never understood the complaints about the vigor bar since it only shows while flying and can be moved, and I honestly thought the only changes we’d ever see would be small quality of life tweaks like removing the cost of taking off. Even that doesn’t feel absolutely necessary since you can just fly a couple circles before you land to regen, but it would still be a nice QoL change, along with maybe removing the cooldown on Soar for Dracthyr. If this really gets replaced with just a flat 6 charge system, it feels like a step backwards and it has me doubting if I even want to keep playing.
Flying doesn’t need to be skill based. Lol.
All they are doing is splitting it between the abilities is the same weight DK used to use different runess for different spells. Personally, I think they should just remove vigor entirely and leave all of the abilities with unlimited use. I prefer steady flying because of the control factor but I also like it because there’s no vigor.
thats what steady flying is for. you already have that option.
If someone doesn’t want depth or skill expression in flying, they can just use steady flight. Dragonriding gave players who wanted more engagement something fun and rewarding to master, and taking that away makes no sense. Why remove a system people enjoy when both playstyles can exist side by side?
Then you are looking for an excuse to stop playing.
There is 0 skill in managing anything to do with skyriding/dragonriding. It is brainless and easy, just like flying is. Only a select few can’t use it. But it doesn’t mean skill is involved.
Sorry to burst the bubble, but it can’t be easier. Removing the vigor just removes the tediousness of it.
Absolutely not. I just got back into the game in War Within Season 2 after a long break, and Dragonriding has been one of my favorite additions ever. I was genuinely hyped for the next expansion with things like player housing and all the other features coming. I’d honestly like to preorder right now, but this change to flying has me concerned. Dragonriding was a big reason I got back into WoW, and I don’t want to see it reduced to something less engaging.
I thought it was to prevent botting?
If it was about bots they would just use steady flight anyway, it’s 2025 and bots aren’t losing to a vigor bar.
Im pretty sure that was the case tho.
Well it’s a bad one.
It’s kind of indefensible except for people who just want the game to be less engaging. Honestly feels like the mindset of people who would have been happier playing OSRS.
I’ll reserve my judgment till I see what the new dragonriding looks like… but I will just say I hope the recharge time is at least as fast as the speed at which I can currently regain vigor when performing optimally. As long as this doesn’t end up slowing me down, I’m okay with it I suppose. Though there was something kind of fun about gamifying flying! But it doesn’t matter too much to me in the end; I get my fun out of other elements of this game.
Yeah that’s fair, the funny thing is my buddy complains about vigor all the time and to me that just shows there really is skill expression in it, which goes right to the root of good game design.
Posters are really out here trying to gaslight others into thinking managing Vigor is a skill
You want modern society to make an effort? To keep track of vigor? What are you? A fascist?
Wasn’t several of the dragon riding talents for the purpose of changing your vigor in some way? if we no longer have vigor I wonder what will replace all the vigor specific traits.
The really sad part is that they are not even really removing vigor, but they are changing it to something worse. Our current system is easily seen, and offers you perks for playing it well. The new system will be harder to see, and it remains to be seen if we will have any reduction in recharge times for playing well.
Basically they are just giving us charges instead of vigor. If the charges recharge at the rate vigor does with thrill of the sky now, then they are removing an easy to see system for tiny little numbers on the skills. If the cooldowns are slower that what we have now with no way to speed them up, then it is just a straight up nerf.
Yeh. I really wish they would keep vigor how it is.
The only source for this I could find is here https://www.icy-veins.com/wow/news/wow-midnight-fixes-the-worst-part-of-flying/
.
What do they mean, “6 shared charges for Surge Forward Surge Forward and Skyward Ascent Skyward Ascent.”? How do you refill the charges if you don’t have vigor?
Does this mean I can’t refill my vigor by flying well as I do currently? That sucks, I love current flying and I think most players do. Disappointing if these changes are being made to babysit the >5% of players or something that can’t figure it out.
Folks thinking mashing a button a few times makes something skill based.
