Concerned about Destro warlock fantasy in TWW

Both of the hero talent tree Destro gets in TWW are VERY themed around the other spec. Diabolist is 100% demo, it summons a bunch of demons, so much so it makes current demo seem like a chump with its gaggle of imps. meanwhile, the other spec seems to be based off of Xavius and the emerald nightmare, it’s VERY shadow/curse sort of stuff, with 0 use of fire, and turns some of Destro spells from fire-looking into more withering, decay sort of stuff.

It’s impossible to to remain a sort of fire/fel fire sort in TWW as Destro.

I almost exclusively play Destro, and I’ll say that I’m ok with this as long as it’s substantiated.

Warlocks chase the power, meaning our abilities and how they manifest should radically shift depending on what we’re drawing our powers from and our level of knowledge regarding that power source.

If it was written that we started leaning more heavily into the Void instead of the Fel, then I would fully expect to see our spells change visually and thematically. Given that we’ve toppled the Demons, and we’re heading towards the Void, I do expect to lean more into the Void/Shadow stuff.

Diabolist summons demons but it does so off the back of Chaos Bolt.
There’s already a Destro build where CB leads to summoning Demons (Infernals).

I don’t think it’s Demo theme, I think it’s Warlock themed. Demons aren’t just for Demo, that’s been lost in translation over the years.

And Hellcaller further emphasizes spamming CB, by granting you Haste and Wither dealing more damage while staying active longer for every CB you cast.

I agree that there isn’t one heavy Destro themed spec, but I think all 3 Hero Talents are steeped in Warlock fantasy.

And ultimately, it’ll play like Destro. CB Spam / Enhancements.

It’s not the void though. If it was, destro would get like implosion (not the demo pun thing), sort of void things that crush and destroy. Destro should feel like you can tear the walls of a city down, like you’re a living siege weapon. The one that destro and aff share, the Hellcaller, is centered around an ability called “wither”, that replaces immolate, into an emerald nightmare based ability. And the rest of the spec is based around more DoT damage and weakening enemies.

Internals aren’t demons, they’re constructs. It’s different to use fel stuff than to specifically center around demons. It’s the diference between using death magic as DKs do and actually summoning liches (or like… Ardenweald stuff) from the shadowlands.

The new Rogue tree is basically just free damage for doing your rotation. Looks like it’s all passives lol.

Yeah, and that’s fine. Like I said, Warlocks should be drawing on any power sources that they can, and if it’s the Nightmare or the Void, I am OK with that. We’ve been to the Nightmare… a few times I think, and as power hungry sorcerers we should be looking for ways to steal their secrets and utilize them ourselves.

Honestly, if we had a Light themed expansion, I’d be fully ok with a Warlock somehow bending the Light to their will to augment their spells if they so needed. It’s the nature of our game, power by any means.

I should say, I do understand what you’re trying to say, that this isn’t a direction that you care for. I just don’t personally have an issue with it. I think Diabolist might be more your style, ignoring the demons and focusing on Touch of Rancora. You can double your Chaos Bolt damage, and during an Infernal window which should realistically double its damage you can double it again. The numbers should be pretty impressive.

My advice to you: Just go with the flow and don’t get attached.

I was a Demonology Warlock from WotLK to the last day of WoD.

My spec was all about turning into a big Demon Lord and roflstomping everything around me.

I loved it.

I was attached to that fantasy.

One day blizz decided “Warlocks shouldn’t turn into Demons” and changed Demonology into something unrecognizable.

I understand some people find new Demo appealing. I’m definitely not one of those people. I want my character to be powerful, not a weakling that summons a gang of weaklings so that together all those weaklings can be about as strong as one regular person lol

But that’s the thing: We don’t choose what our specs do. Blizzard chooses that. And they can change their minds at any time.

So just go with the flow. Understand that you don’t really own your character in any way, shape or form, and that Blizz can and will change your character without your authorization. Choose what you like and play it, and if it changes, choose again.

When Demo was ruined for me, I rerolled Destro. If they ruin Destro for me, I’ll pick something else.

Truth lol. So many summons just to match the power of one mage

Something similar could be said when Blizzard added Metamorphosis to Warlocks in Wrath of the Lich King…

Maybe, but I wasn’t playing back then.

I’m not saying Demon Lord Demo was good or Summoner Demo was bad. That’s subjective. We all have our opinions of the subject.

I’m saying I loved Demon Lord Demo and one day Blizzard took that from me, and there’s nothing stopping the same thing from happening again to any spec, so it’s best not to get attached.

Play whichever spec you like best now, and if it’s gone tomorrow, just pick another one.
