It’s just really, really, really hot oil. That’s why we can swim in it. Like of course there’s lava in some places - like the stuff we can walk on in Frostfire ridge.
But any lava you can swim in is just…oil. Very, very hot oil.

You can swim in very very hot oil?
I mean it’ll hurt, but you could!
Like it does in WoW!
So you’re saying the floor is lava?
I think you could swim longer in lava than hot oil
You think you’d be able to swim out of a deep fryer?
…Wat?
You can’t swim in lava though. It’s too dense. It’d be like trying to swim through cement.
yea exactly, that’s why you’d last longer
N…no? Do you think you’d be able to swim out of LAVA?
You can’t swim through either, we’re playing a fantasy game.
Y…yeah…so …that’s why I suggested oil…cause I thought it’d be funny if…like…y’know…we came out all crispy after lava jumping…

I will ask this again -
How high are you right now.
You cooky little panda. Your posts are cracking me up
Oh this is just like…what happens when I’m up for more than six hours at this point
Id rather not give into the Tauren memes and be fried beef
Technically, yes. Not for long though, just the rest of your life xD
My brain! It hurts!
What did I just read😮
the science center of my nerd brain has been triggered slightly, lava is magma that rises to the surface to be clear. Its molten rock and the temps it produces even on the surface requires you to be in a special suit to be anywhere near it with out overheating if its a fresh flow. Most things like trees and grass will light on fire before the lava even touches it, anything it directly touches would quickly be burnt to a crisp and destroyed, in reality you wouldnt last seconds.
I think the point the OP is getting at is that lava in real life is too thick to physically swim in even if you could somehow survive the high temperature.
Maybe the Titans originally decorated Azeroth with lots of really big lava lamps that were broken during the Sundering? The waxy, oily mixture in them wouldn’t be hot enough to fry you instantly, and the viscosity would explain the reduced swim speed. Not to mention the blob shapes of most fire elementals.
It might also explain why the night elves turned into hippies and why male human paladins developed disco dancing.
