My computer is freezing up when I swap my client between my screens (Monitor 1 & 2), forcing me to restart my PC because EVERYTHING freezes up. Not even alt + f4 or ctrl + alt + del will fix it. Very annoying. I like to have both my accounts up on each monitor and now they’re both forced to one side, making the game unenjoyable to play but alt +tabbing between both clients. By the way, I only play Classic, not Modern, so I have not tested it on the Modern client. My graphics card drivers are up to date, and I play in fullscreen (windowed).
Anybody else dealing with the same issue and / or is there a fix?
If you have any apps that put overlays on games (Twitch, Discord, etc…) try closing them before changing any video settings in Classic. There is a known bug causing Classic to crash on video setting changes while subject to third party overlays.
Once you have the video settings the way you want you can start those apps back up.
If you have nVidia graphics, make sure your drivers are up to date.
There’s a known compatibility problem that came up earlier this year due to a change Microsoft made to DirectX. Ironically, I believe the change to DirectX was made to extend support to Windows 7 users specifically due to demand from WoW players who hadn’t upgraded to Windows 10 yet. It caused massive framerate drops and other issues.
My rig is a Gigabyte Brix Gaming VR. It has an Nvidia GTX 1060 embedded in its CPU and has multi-monitor support. The DirectX compatibility issue caused all sorts of havoc for me and not just with WoW. Poor frame rate, random network connectivity loss, random rebooting, even total system freezing. My theory is because my GPU is embedded with my CPU the compatibility bug caused more extensive system disruption for me than most people were reporting.
Updating video drivers fixed these problems for me.
