Computer 100% bricked

Intel i5-8400 1ga1151
Cryorig h7 49.0
Asrock z370M Pro4 ATX LGa1151
Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB DDr4 2666
Seagate - Firecuda 1TB3.5 7200
Zotac Geforce GTX 1060 6gb
Seasonic S12 II 520W 80+ bronze

These are my specs and my comp is probably 5-6 years old. So, my main issue is I can’t literally do anything without my disk usage going over 100%. I’m using task manager.

It’s so bad, that I can’t even us cmd /sfc scannow or update my drives without it freezing around 86%. My performance and speed is very low. I have windows updates downloading in the background, but that is also causing my computer to suffer. When I open windows update, I am confronted by a blank screen with loading dots at the top.

I am contemplating about buying a new SSD or more ram. I hate to spend money on parts if it’s mainly a software issue. I am not very tech saavy. Please SOS.

The SSD is the missing piece. The rest of your components are at or above minimum spec, but both minimum and recommended specification require SSD. Spinning rust is absolutely not fast enough any more.

More RAM would be a good idea, but it’s hard to know what’s competing with WoW for memory. Still, 16Gb is recommended. But if you had to choose one, choose an SSD with at least 128 Gb of capacity and devote it to WoW (which routinely needs 100Gb and can require up to 128 when updating).

From what you posted, you’re running this game off a hard drive.
WoW requires an SSD.

Also, while 8GB of RAM is sufficient, I’d recommend adding 8GB.

So, do you guys think all the problems I’m having is related to my old hard drive? I can’t even run sfc /scannow w/o disk usage being at 100%. I tried updated drivers, (won’t let me) clean/delete corrupt folders, run cmd (won’t let me) and temp delete super fetch.

If the hard disk is thrashing even when it’s not doing anything heavy like playing WoW, you probably have filled up RAM with a bunch of load-at-startup crap that installers love to plug in and forget about, or other background programs that compete with your use of the computer.

Running out of RAM will thrash the hard disk because of swapping. You probably want to take a close look at what’s auto-starting at bootup.

If it’s stuck at 100% usage all the time, it’s too full and/or dying. Lay the hard drive to rest and give yourself the gift of an SSD. Do it before you lose data you want to backup, because it will take a long time to do so.

I would def look into both more RAM and an SSD. Mentioned earlier if you’re saturating your RAM your sys will swap and your HDD will be used to supplement the RAM. Then on top of that you have giant zones trying to be read from an HDD. Another stick of 8gb memory should suffice and a small SSD should be all you need. You don’t need to relocate your entire OS (though I recommend it) , but if you want to do the bare minimum an SSD in there for just WoW would work.

There’s your problem. Install a SATA SSD or put in a 1-2 TB M.2 SSD of your board has the notch for it. Put WoW on the SSD. Mechanical hard drives are data bottlenecks now.

If you’re running Windows 10 on a HDD that’s likely your issue. You can check this by running the Performance Monitor on Windows and seeing if your HDD’s usage, but the OS itself was designed for SSDs, and doesn’t work well, if reasonably at all, on a HDD.

I recomend a edge card that is in a 1x/4x or 16 x pcie slot. With a heat sink.
Look for a 4x SSD To put on it. 3200 r/w speed or more. 256Gb or more.
Make a folder on the root of drive.
Tell windows to install a page file on drive and the tell windows to handle all of that.
I have tested my M2 slot x4 on the motherboard and the drive is faster in my 16x slot in a x4 edge card.

While hard drives are very slow now compared to SSD’s, it would not cause the entire system or game to freeze like that. The game will still run off of a hard drive…there will be pop in and load time issues but it wouldn’t actually freeze. I suspect the drive is actually dying, that’s definitely a symptom of it.

That’s what we already said multiple times in this thread.
