Comparing Wow to Project: Gorgon (As of now)

Let’s start with WOW BFA. Even though I quit the game for now due to an elven eye change I can’t stand I was playing BFA for most of the time it was out.

World of Warcraft:

  1. Due to just time, World of Warcraft has a deeper story and though slowly continues to evolve in this area.

  2. More races to choose from. At this time Project Gorgon only have three to choose from. Human (bleh boring again), elf and some sort of cat race that came from another dimensional world.

  3. Graphics. The graphics in wow are much more advanced than in Project Gorgon.

  4. Gear of course then looks better, especially as you try to progress with your wow character in terms of getting the best of the best.

  5. PVP, dungeons, Raids are much more elaborate. Yes, well again Blizzard has developed there game over many more years, financial backing and with a dedicated fan base for all things WOW.

  6. Wow has racials for every single player race you can play. This is really good. Project Gorgon: does not have any racials for it’s three playable races as of yet.

With that said, here are some things to point out with Project Gorgon, that are reminders of old time rpgs which I think Blizzard has lost in some of it’s agenda it pushes on to the masses in WOW now.

  1. Project Gorgon’s Graphics: Yes, not the best by a longshot compared to most modern games today, but actually they are not as bad as one first thinks. In another time, the graphics in this game would have been awesome. In today’s standards, they are alright.

  2. The class system is unreal. You don’t exactly pick your class to start regardless of what race you pick.

Instead you have to in some cases but largely get to choose what skills you start leveling up and I believe every single skill line can be raised to 80.

This takes a long time. It’s a grind fest just to get some skills up to the 20’s.

Reminds me a bit of classic wow.

On top of this, if you get bored with certain skill lines, you can switch. Eventually I think you must choose two which are your primary skill lines (aka class) but again you can switch these to others at any time.

You want to be a hybrid magical mage user plus use daggers like a rogue, you can.

There are also lot’s of skills that aren’t just for fighting. You can build up cooking, blacksmithing etc and then

You can also unlock new skill lines once you raise particular ones to a certain level.

So for example: I have two characters on Project Gorgon. I have a green cat like person (forgot the race name) and some blue elf.

The green cat like person is going to become a blacksmith. He is also looking only for metal armor. Right now he is fighting unarmed but eventually will learn hammers which will go along with metal armor I hope to bolster for him down the road as he learns how to augment metal armor he wears at this point.

Furthermore he is also learning alchemy.

Yet he is not learning alchemy per se to become an alchemist. He is learning it to get it to a certain level in order to learn battle chemistry. Means he will have one fighting skill that uses potions. The other one will be hammer.

Furthermore he is also learning stringed performances. This is not a combat skill but one where you learn two things.

First, you learn to raise stringed instruments by getting more skilled with certain musical items in order to increase your performance skill line.

As you learn these skills, usually by playing in this main town in the game at this time, you help augment other players with buffs that help them level up their chosen skill lines in the world.

Yet I believe, because I have only gotten so far, eventually you can raise your performance skill line so your performances become grander over time.

Lastly, as of now, my cat like guy is learning how to use Bard. This is a variation off of musical and combat skill lines. He has learned several attacks already where he uses songs and notes from horns to attack enemies or to bolster himself and allies.

As for my elf. He is becoming a magical user or a mage like one like in wow.

My elf guy though is going to become a ice magical user (like a frost mage) in wow but interesting, he must learn fire magic at least until 25 to start learning ice magic.

He is also going to learn dancing.

With that said.

There are some cool dungeons. Unlike in wow, many if not all right now seem to be public. Meaning any number of people can enter each dungeon at any time.

There are bosses, but I have faced few so far. Even mobs, that come to you sometimes in packs are very dangerous, like in classic wow.

They also call for help, so your best bet is sometimes to string an enemy away from others before you attack.

One last thing so far.

There is a cold zone in Project Gorgon called Kul Mountains I think. Here, you can also die from the elements. So you could have a high level character, but since you can only really run at most in Project Gorgon, if you do not bring survival fires or make it to other fire checkpoints and make sure you have enough wood on you, your character will freeze to death.

They eventually plan to add three more races too the game.

They plan to add fairies, orcs and dwarves.

We don’t have fairies in wow as a playable race.

Except project gorgon is dead on arrival.
Everyone who is anyone in the MMO community knows that Pantheon is going to be the best thing since sliced bread.

I had to Google this, looks like a terrible tablet gaming MMO somebody made in their garage.

Are you one of the developers or something? That’s a whole lot of text I’m not going to read just to say “play my high school project please”.

wow is amusement park type of mmo. Where you do what devs give you to do. Like ff14, eso, swtor and etc. Not player driven and made world where you have to entertain yourself.

Far as I know it’s a huge labor of love type project from a husband and wife team. I guess they got tired of mmo’s not being what they wanted and decided to make their own.

I’ve kinda passively observed the project for a while but it’s far from something I would really invest time in. At least not until alot more of the gameplay and graphics are improved.

Its neat, but last I saw it was like 1 or 2 zones.

With a huge loan they could turn it into a business and make something neat.

Just remember this isn’t the final stage of the eye updates. This was just the first step in the changes.

I’ve never even heard of this game.

in perpetual pre-alpha?

You mean taking their time to make sure everything is in order before moving forward, like games should be?

Sure

There is more than two zones in Project Gorgon now.

A bunch more. The game I heard has been around in Alpha since 2015. I just joined two weeks ago at most and I was told they added a ton more content just this last year alone.

The game isn’t done yet for any measure.

And yes, even if the graphics are not great, the gameplay is very interesting.

At the very least wow could be inspired by some of these ideas for wow.
