Comparing BG 3 to WOW

So I bought Buldur’s Gate 3.

I don’t think at this time it’s worth sixty bucks.

It’s really a digital tabeltop game or like an old school rpg.

Graphically some of the races look good. They only have act 1 available right now.

I didn’t make it that far though. So far most of the fights feel too hard. Every single fight though is epic.

Like for example: Imagine you were running around goldshire and saw three bandits and instead "boom kick slash your dead. You could still kill all three of those bandits but you better believe it was going to be an epic fight and either side could totally win.

So any victory you won, I mean you earned. It was hard fought. That is what BG 3 is like.

You get choices which is cool and your able to roll dice to determine if sometimes if what you use (a skill for example) actually works.

For example: I’m a wizard. I tried to free a woman in this living ship which is in the first part.

I found out later there is no real way to help her at this point but no matter you meet her later and she joins you (albeit reluctantly) at least where I am for now.

However, I got multiple choices on how to free her when she was stuck in this living bio bed of sorts.

As a wizard I was able to try to free her by disabling the runes that were keeping her trapped.

Various other things. You can be a tiefling. It’s a group of humans long ago made some pacts with some arch devils to form basically three types of demon/human hybrids.

And my tiefling is a descendant of these humans that made this kind of deal with these archdevils.

My tiefling also comes from a certain bloodline, apparently from a devil from the deepest layer of the hells in the game. Due to this particular blood line, my character’s racials give me certain benefits based not just on being a tiefling buton what blood line my character’s demonic nature comes from.

With that said, it does seem too hard.

Wow still has a good story of sorts and a better end game for now.

You can also though be high elves or wood elves in BG 3 now or a half high or wood elf. They actually took the time to make a difference between full elves and half elves, the implication that the other half in half elves came from a human parent.

I took the time to look at elf ears, human ears and half elf ears in the character creation of BG 3.

A Half elf ear and features really does look like a cross between a normal human and a elf. Like still pointy but not as pointy as a full elf or slender, much broader like a humans. Furthermore, they have some or not as strong benefits based on their mixed elven and human heritage as well.

Finally as of right now.

It seems not only can you pick many classes like wow, warlock, (wizard) is like a mage) cleric (like a priest) warrior and druids now.

Unlike in wow where we have three specs per class and can change those specs when we wish.

In BG 3 you can pick multiple specs as well for the class but whatever one you pick for that character you better like forever, because you will be that type of “insert class” for that character forever.

What else. You can be drow and pick from two sub races of drow just like how you can pick from a variety of sub races from the base ones (such as let’s say you want to be a dwarf) you can then later pick to be a golden dwarf or some other type of dwarf and that choice determines certain benefits your character will have.

Drow on the other hand seem to be a mixture of elves and some other dark beings or force.

What is interesting is though you can pick many skin tones, based on the fantasy race you play there are some specific skin tones you can choose for the races available now that only apply to that fantasy race.

You can also pick a background. Outside of TP3 (which is an add on for wow) you can’t add a little backstory to your character.

In BG 3 there are multiple options. For example, besides my tiefling being a wizard he is also a sage.

This means that if he encounters certain ruins he gets certain benefits or he get’s certain benefits having studied ruins.

There are some other skill sets that can help you in certain situations in BG 3 (at least implied at some point) in the game.

So for example. If you choose history, and you encounter certain things in the game, you will be able to have options to help you say decipher some old language that might be written on it I think.

That feels like professions in game.

Like how an inscriptionist might be able to make something that implies it came from olden times or doing archaeology in wow.

I think it has the potential to grow.

BG 3 is not worth 60 bucks right now.

I hope it develops more. I know they just added druids and characters with necromancer powers now have the option to speak to more corpses than they could before.

So say you killed a bunch of guys “you know for who knows what reason” and now your like “Okay what do I do now?” if you have necromancy you can raise them up and speak to more varieties of dead to find out what to do next.

Too bad we don’t have necromancers in wow as a class. Though eso does and now BG 3 too.

i think if not WOW ! is not for me

I bought Baldur’s Gate 3 and honestly probably should have returned it. When I heard Larian was making it and that it was using D&D Mechanics, I assumed it was basically going to function like DOS:2, but it’s… nowhere close to that. It sticks way more closely to actual D&D rules… but actual D&D rules are only fun in the context of a D&D game with, you know, friends, and freeform roleplaying, and all that.

Every fight takes forever but my input is basically negligible because I can hit… once. Yes yes it’s per character so I should treat it like a jRPG party or whatever, but honestly I’d rather go play Octopath at that point. It’s not fun because of this. DOS:2 is a perfect way to “video gamify” D&D Rules and they should have copied it for this.

I WANT to like BG3, but I honestly don’t know if I’ll be able to stomach finishing it when it’s done. Maybe mods will be able to save it for me, idk.

Yeah,
I agree. I want to like it and maybe I just miss that lore and story in wow has been sidelined but yes every fight does take forever and I have to do certain fights many times over (if I make a wrong move).

Not just for myself but if my actions have a negative effect on my companion. Without them I would surely have not have gotten as far as I already have.

On the other hand, every fight so far I have done feels exciting. I hope the game gets better but yeah right now where it is.

Sixty bucks was way too much. It should really be like 25 right now to try it out like it is today.

At least until they work on it more or add more acts. I’m on the ravaged beach btw. I don’t think I got too far into the game myself and those brain animal things were a pain.

But I really like how tielfings look and I like the idea behind how their race formed. Maybe I just wish tieflings were a playable race in wow too.

Oh yeah and like gnomes, instead of gnomes, you can choose to play as a halfling.

I’ve got over 200 hours in BG3, I absolutely love it… and I’ve never completed act 1 yet, every play through has been completely different and I’m still uncovering new things I never seen before.

I cannot wait for the full release, one of my most anticipated games to play.

They released it in Early Access meaning it’s unfinished but slapped a full price tag on it.

Pretty disgusting

No really, but stay mad.

I’m not mad lol I didn’t spend a dime on it. If you like paying full price for a game that’s literally advertised as unfinished then go for it.

Sounds like you’re the one who’s mad because someone criticized your precious game lmao

TLDR.

But if it has anything to do with wow going turn based then it can burn.

Cool story, bro.
