Companion pet bug?

I have one pet on a new hunter. Just the one…nothing in the stable. Just the one in the pet list.
I took companion pet and was about to go get a second Hyena, but looked down and It shows two hyenas that Im running around with, even though Ive only got one in my pet list and ZERO pets stabled.

Is this supposed to be like this ? Or a bug?

Edit, just tested it…
when I swap talents and no longer have pet companion the second hyena disappears…when I take it again the hyena reappears.

It is designed like this. There’s not a pet in your first stable slot, so it clones your only other pet. Same way CoW will copy my main pet when I am not carrying any more.
